prob sony dru500a, wont read but will burn

    first the drive has worked for six months no problems reads and burns, but now have a problem

    here the prob

    my drive will not read a dvd or cd (i do not get error or anything, just wont read, the read light just stays on and have to reboot to stop)

    the only thing it will read is a blank dvd and it will burn a blank dvd (weird)

    -i have update the firmware to 2.0
    -i have unistalled the drivers and reinstalled
    -i called sony and you know how that goes
    -i even cussed at it alot

    any sudjestions would be appreciated

    Did the problem occur before or after the firmware upgrade?

    its happened before the upgrade

    i upgraded to see if it would fix it

    all the things i listed was what i did after i got problem

    on another note (Oriphus) do you ever sleep! haha
