I have a new computer and it only has a dvd burner drive in it. I was just wondering if I could use DVDX Copy or if I have to purchase a DVD ROM. Thanks in advance.
That's not a stupid question. Although there are better ways to back up to DVD-R (+R) instead of DVDXCopy IMHO. You can back up your movies straight off using your DVD Burner , although if you do buy a DVD-Rom you'll also be able to burn on-the-fly. (Suggestion Lite-On DVD-Rom http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005TZS0/interactiveda-21/202-4442596-0770243 ) Smartripper or DVD Decrypter DVD2One or DVD Shrink Nero or other Burning App. (if you want advice about DVDXcopy though check here: http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/ )
Check the guides here or http://www.doom9.org or http://www.dvd2dvdr.com if you're entirely new to this I'd first try dvdshrink. It can be found on this site and is the only FREE ripper/reencoder I know of, if you feel up to backing up your dvds then you might try using some of the other programs listed on the guides of the above websites, the rippers will all be free(at least all the good ones like DVDDecrypter and Smartripper) but most all of the reencoders will not be free, good luck with your new computer and all future dvd backups.
