Just installed a LG DVD burner in place of a CD burner, can play CDs but will not recognise or play DVDs. It shows up as DVD-RAM drive on my computer but when i load a DVD it changes back to CD-drive. If i put a DVD in drive to burn it says put a (re)writable disk in drive. According to owners manual drivers are already incorporated in XP. Am i missing something obvious??
You will also need a software program like CvberLink Power DVD or the playback program that is part of Nero to watch your DVDs. The drivers in Windows XP should be good for your drive, Windows media player has trouble playing DVDs so I have never used it. Bill's digital rights etc.
Something may have happened during installation. Go to your Device Manager, and find the LG burner, and delete or uninstall it. Reboot the computer, and let windows recognize new hardware, and let windows re-install it. A lot of times, that will fix this kind of problem. Good luck!
Thanks for answers but i already have power DVD installed and have been using it for a couple of years on my other burner. I cannot see the option to uninstall burner in device manager, only the driver which has always been in computer as it is part of XP and was used previously by the removed CD burner. Is this what you you mean JVC.
Further findings. Drive is recognised in bios and my computer. Plays cds but will not burn, fails at lead in stage using nero and copy to dvd. Will not recognise dvds although they appear to be read when loaded as activity light is same as other burner. The picture on my computer changes from dvd-ro to cd when a dvd is loaded
You can try the driver, and see if it works for you. Sometimes that will do it. If not, maybe someone can explain doing the drive, better than me. Good luck!
I am beginning to think i have a faulty unit, using nero info tool it shows up the CDs OK but any DVD i load nothing is shown at all.
Tried updating firmware to latest issue, still U/S, confirmed unit is faulty by interchanging with good unit.
