Hey everyone, I have backed up a good amount of single layer DVDs using the newest version of AnyDVD in conjunction with DVD Shrink and never had problems. This is really the first time I've ever attempted to burn DL discs at all. I used DVDDecrypter to copy my disc to an .ISO and then ripped directly to the hard drive and used ISO write mode in Decrypter to burn the disc with the MDS file. The disc seems to work alright in my Blu-Ray player and on my PC but it does not work very well in my Apex AD-1500. The disc I burned is Tim And Eric Awesome Show Great Job Season 1. On my player, some episodes play just fine while several have a lot of skips in them or are just unplayable. I also burned Gran Torino this way and get a similar skipping issue at about 30 minutes into the movie. I checked around and found that my player is supposed to support DVD+R DL media and it has always played my single layer DVD+R's just fine as well, so I am thinking that it isn't my player but perhaps just the quality of the burn or my software or something. My burner is a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D with firmware version DE03. I also have it set to booktype the discs to DVD-ROM. As mentioned in my thread title I am using Verbatim DVD+R DL media, so I wouldn't think the media is the issue either. Perhaps there are other good reliable methods of burning 1:1 copies to DL media? there are just so many different programs and such to use that it is just quite confusing to me, so it would be great to hear from some of you about methods that give you success (in the meantime I will go thread searching and see what I can come up with on my own) Any help would be greatly appreciated! DVD Decrypter is outdate. It needed updates and so ImgBurn was created. Download and install Imgburn. Update your firmware http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/TS-L632D/files.html Clean your laser lens and then burn a disc. Report back by posting the log file.
ok cool...now the one thing is that all I have right now from the discs that I tried to copy are the original ISO and MDS files that I ripped from DVDDecrypter..can I still use those? and also can I update my firmware even though that firmware update is made by Samsung?
Yes That is the firmware for your model burner. If you're unsure, check the manufacturer's website for your computer.

oh, and sorry it looks like i accidentally left in the top bit of the log file where i tried to burn a different file. the disk that failed on me was Gran Torino, which is down a little bit further in the text. Now, as I said before, the disk worked in my player but at around the 7th chapter of the movie it gets all jumpy and hardly plays right...however when i tried to copy this movie before, the first copy worked alright in my Sony Blu-Ray player and on my computer. It just seems to me that my model DVD player (Apex AD-1500) should support and play these discs correctly especially since others with this model said they play, online guides have said my player supports it, and not to mention the fact that my player certainly recognizes the discs, it just goes all weird at certain points on the disc.
Hmmmmm.....after a lot of thinking i have started to wonder... so let's say the discs are burned incorrectly..would i be assuming wrongly that they only work in my Blu-Ray player and comp because those two machines have more powerful lasers? I am wondering if since i used the out of date DVDDecrypter (in conjunction with AnyDVD) to rip the ISO and MDS files of these relatively newer DVDs if the layer break information is not correct (if you look at my log file, you see that the Tim and Eric image failed because IMGBurn said the MDS file did not have the right layer break info or something) and my DVD player is skipping at these parts because it cannot read that info correctly because DVDDecrypter didn't process and burn it correctly? I have been looking around a lot and hearing a lot about DVDFab and am wondering if i should try ripping the files with that, creating an ISO of those ripped files from IMGBurn and determining the layer break info and then burning with IMGBurn...would that be more likely to produce my desired result? I think I will try that method in a day or two and post my results. Sorry about all the questions, I just don't want to waste any more of my Verbatims lol By all means if there is something glaring in my log file that explais my problem, please let me know! thanks again for the help dialysis!!
The LB would not be 30 min. into the movie. You say it plays fine on the newer player. Try giving the older one a really good laser cleaning. While you're at it, clean them all. You don't need an ISO to burn with ImgBurn. You can burn the files directly.
yeah I just realized that you could do that when I looked at the program again yesterday...The one thing is, if my laser is dirty don't you think i would get skips in more than just my burned DVD+R DLs? I have watched a couple non burned movies in the player recently and have not gotten those noticeable skips at all
Alright...and now that I have updated my firmware to SC04 from DE03, it seems that my drive has a problem with ejecting discs now...any suggestions??
yeah, actually disregard that, the drive works properly. The only problem was that I had it reading a disc trying to make an image and then i canceled it and i think that interruption is what made it not open. When you let the operation finish it is fine. But anyways, I ripped a disc with the newewest version of AnyDVD and then burned the Video files with IMGBurn and chose the layer break position....the DVD still messed up in my Apex just the same as it did before, and yes i did clean the lens...I'm starting to think that maybe my player just can't handle it and will pick up a new player and test it in there
ok, so I just went out to Wal-Mart and bought a cheapo Magnavox player and now the discs play without any issue ...thanks for the help Dialysis!!!
