Hi, I'm new to burning discs and I'm having a problem burning my DVD-R DL disc with Nero. I can burn a regular DVD-R but not a DVD-R DL. I've switched the settings on DVD Shrink to DVD-9. I'm using the newest version of Nero and I'm using Ritek discs. My dvd burner is a Sony DRU-810A which can burn DL DVDs. I'm using the newest version of DVD Shrink. I've included my log, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check into the latest update for that sony 810 drive. Here's a link about that drive having problems with ritek DL media:
    http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/12527

Nero6 can have issues with dual layer backups-usually the layer break. I use dvd decrypter in Mode iso read to Harddrive and Mode ISO write. It's a very good program for dual layer backups.

    - that's not too bad, though try to close more programs down prior to dvd work in order to free up more memory

    - cor, haven't seen that error before, i'd update the firmware as per saugmon's reply

    - i'd update the firmware as per saugmon's reply

    - your ATAPI drivers aren't listed here, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

Thank you both for your help. I tried to update the firmware but there is nothing available yet. I will try DVD Decrypter for the DL burning. I also purchased some Verbatim DVD+R DL to see if they might work. I will let you know if I can burn them. Once again, much thanks.

you should be ok w/ the Verbatim dvd+r DLs, i have used about 30 thus far BUT using saugmon's suggestion above, i ONLY burn w/ dvd decrypter, i have found that Nero has a problem with the layer break when burning a few months ago, so, i have used DVD Decrypter ISO READ---ISO WRITE exclusively~:)

also, i have the identical internals as you do, but, my drive is not the Sony dru-810A, but rather, the Benq 1640~ (the Sony you have is a rebadged Benq 1640 just for your info) :)

using dvd decrypter on the Verbatim dvd+r DLs (mine are MADE IN SINGAPORE) i have had 30 FLAWLESS backups onto the media, and another 20+ on the Ritek Ridata dvd+R DL media as well...i am going to stick with the dvd+r DLs as i don't see myself using the dvd-r DLs anytime soon...good luck~

    docTY~

Thanks for all the help. The Verbatim DVD+R DL burned perfectly with the DVD Decrypter. I guess the Sony burner doesn't like DVD-R DL from Ritek. Once again I appreciate all the help.

No problemo. Those verbatim dls and dvd decrypter are a very good combo for backing up dual layers. Good Luck and Burn On!
