Problem burning DVD+R with Nero OEM Suite 6.3.1.17

First off, I am using an AOPEN DUW1608/ARRSCSI CdROM Device. The first one didn't seem to be working right so we sent it back and ordered a new one. My DH seems to think our problem began when we began using IMATION DVD's.

Second, I am using NERO SmartStart from OEM Suite 6.3.1.17

When burning, I insert a blank DVD, click on "make data disc", indicate I want multisession capability, add the appropriate files, click finish and it indicates the burn is successful. I even requested to verify the data was there, that function failed, but I read here that it doesn't mean the data isn't on the disk. Regardless, when I open the newly burned DVD there is nothing on it.

I know the data is there, because when I check the DVD itself I can tell it's been burned.

So the question is...is this NERO or is this the IMATION DVD? Or is it both?

Thank you in advance for everything!!

    Hello.

There are quite a few issues here:

First the version of Nero you have is pretty out of date.

Second Nero InCD is installed which causes problems and must be uninstalled with the Nero InCD Clean Tool applied.

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/InCD_Clean_Tool.html

Third, the DMA (direct memory access if off to all your drives). Here's a guide for fixing that up.

(Edit: replaced incorrect link to DMA guide)

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf

Fourth, there's a newer firmware available for your burner at the site below:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1910

It also appears you are attempting to write a very tiny amount of info to a DVD. Can you explain what you are trying to do in more detail. Are you backing up a DVD you? Trying to make a music CD?

Hi back. Thank you for your help.

    In answer to your questions:

    1) I just finishing updating my Nero with the 6.6.1.4

    2) I used the tool and got rid of InCD

    3) I don't understand what you mean by DMA. I didn't find anything pertaining to it at the link you posted.

    4) I clicked on that site for the firmware and there's nothing there about updating my burner.

    5) I had originally tried making a data disk of several files, but I got tired of redoing it over and over to test it so I just began using one folder until I knew it worked right, then I would do everything.

Since updating my NERO here's what happened:

    Attempt #1:
When I put in a new DVD and tried to burn to it, it told me it could not burn to that type of media (meaning it wasn't a DVD but a CD).

    Attempt #2:
I tried again with a new DVD. It told me the burn was successful. It took a minute when trying to read the DVD but the stuff was there.

Attempt #3 (to add more data)
Since I requested to burn a multisesson during attempt #2, I tried burning the rest of my data to that same DVD. It would not let me add more data to that DVD

Attempt #4: Try to burn new data. Error on NERO says "Sorry your compilation cannot be written to this kind of disk. Please insert a disk of the correct type or modify the settings of your compilation to make it compatible with the current disk"

And so here we go again.

Here's the log of my four attempts:

    Hello again.

Your burner firmware version is A070. The most current is A110 here:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1910

Click on the A110 and the firmware should download to your HDD. Open the downloaded firmware. It's an executable so it should be able to locate your burner and flash the updated firmware.

Here's the link that got lost for correcting the DMA (direct memory access).

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf

If I had known you were going to update Nero I would have suggested version 6.6.0.18. 6.6.1.4 is buggy and doesn't work well. Version 6.6.0.18 can be downloaded here:

    Pack 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Pack 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Run the Nero 6 Clean Tool again before installing the above.

Also go purchase a RW disk for experimenting. I always use a RW for multisession and then when is is complete to my satisfaction I'll make a copy to permanent media.

Imation is usually pretty bad quality media. Stick to Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, and Made in Japan labeled media.

Let's see what happens when the DMA is back on and you get a stable version of Nero installed. I would still get a RW disk especially until all this gets sorted out. They are a buck or so a piece if not on sale.

Ok thanks, I will do all those things you suggested. I just wonder how I can get my money back on those Imation DVD's. We paid $45 for them and they're crap? Seems like money down the drain.

Will get back to you after I do all this stuff!

And thanks for your time, it means a lot that you have been offering support!

    Jess

Hi. It's still there. Try again. The server may have been busy or down for maintenance.

Heya, I was having similar troubles to the ones in this post, so I figured why make another?
My issue is, i'm using Nero v6.0.0.0, and it's driving me insane.
I don't think it's nero though, because I had nero v7 on and it was doing the same thing. It was peeving me off, so I went back to my tried and true version. SO, whats happening is: I put all my files in that I want to copy, and it appears to be recording fine, but for some strange reason, it says it has 00:00 time left to record, and it's only about 50% done. It finishes it off, and it says something like "started burn at 8x". It used to say "burn completed successfully at 8x". So I did everything you guys said to do, uninstalled nero with a cleaner, deleted my primary and secondary ide controllers in my Device manager, reinstalled nero, tried again, and nothing. No change whatsoever.

Any ideas? I was going to post a nero log, but didn't know if it was necessary. If you want it, i'll be more than happy to post.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

    Haggis!

    @ haggis

Yes the log would be great. It's the only way to tell what's going on. For Nero 6 the path is:

Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory

Post only the section that deals with this last burn, maybe the last section of the log. Each section begins thusly:

    Edit: added test below

The best version of Nero 6 is 6.6.0.18. That's the version you should be using.
