Hi, I've got an issue when I'm using the exact copy option from Recordnow - the format: I'm copying a dvd-r media and to a dvd +r media - my dvd writer (nec dvd+rw nd-2100ad) I believe will only burn the +r/+rw. I'm using hp dvd+r 4.7gb 4x media. I get the following error at the very end of the process (20seconds left): there was a problem writing to the disc. You can try again by lciking the retry button. You will need another blank disc ready. Clicking on the button only asks if the disk is dirty. I click on the advanced and the following is shown: Sense: 03 ASC:11 ASCQ: 00 (command 28) Px.dll: 1.8.10.500 pxdrv.dll:1.0.66.0 pxmas.dll:1.8.10.500 pxwave.dll:1.8.10.500 pxwma.dll: 1.0.0.3 I'm assuming the above are the drivers used in this application. I'm using version 7 of sonic record now and have updated via their website. My system is as follows: Dell 4700, 2.8, 160gb hard drive, dvd rom (Samsung dvd-rom sd-616e, dvd writer (NEC dvd-+rw nd-2100ad)I've searched on other threads and tried the dvd decrypter approach - I receive an error copying the file (<4.7gb) to my hard drive - it fails when extracting the sectors I believe. Bottom line - shouldn't I be able to copy directly from a -r to a +r format using recordnow? I did try another +r movie that I had created and used the exact copy methed and it worked great. Even checked the "I only need to use discs for one recording." option. Do I need to copy a .ios file to my hard drive and then burn to the dvd+r? If this exact issue has been addressed previouly, my apologies in advance. Any thoughts?
The code you posted relates to an unrecoverable read error........ Check your setup: Primary and Secondary IDE Controllers are set to DMA and not PIO - (in device manager) This is probably caused by your source disc (in your dvdrom). Check it for blemishes and scratches towards the outer circumference. Put the source disc in your dvdrom and re-rip with dvd decrypter with it in file mode, if it fails over - it will direct you at which VOB it has had problems with. Play the disc in a suitable rom and software etc, and jump to that VOB, then see if it stutters etc - this will indicate a blemish on the disc..... Also if dvd decrypter points you to a particular VOB, then try and just copy and paste that VOB to your HD, if it has trouble the transfer speed will drop down to 0.0x (a definate that it is encountering read issues. The problem with copying on the fly - if the dvdrom encounters a read error, then the writer HAS to WAIT until the error has been overcome - this would cause a failed burn....... If NO software can read the data from the source then a disc to disc would not work..... I think there are some recovery software around, but cannot advise you on what and where there are. The only thing I can really say is get your original again and re-rip it.............
Thanks baabaa, What you have suggested makes sense. I am able to play the source disk in my rom drive & component dvd player and there is no visible physical damage. When the error occurs using the recordnow, it basically makes the "write" disk into a coaster (useless & unable to read in any dvd player). I wanted to include the error that I received when ripping the source disk in -r format using dvd decrypter - it's odd that it consistently errors w/ diff source -r format disks. I did have a successful rip of a dvd containing css encryption. Is the -r format the issue? The issue w/ the direct copy is at the very end, it seems the writeable disk cannot be closed properly. Is that true?
Well difficult to say as I am not experiencing it.... However I do know that with some versions there was a slight issue with disc to disc and finalising......I experienced it on old versions of RecordnowDX that was bundled with burners, I purchased Recordnowmax and it cured the problem, and also others have had similar issues..........but yours is giving a read error code........ Using Recordnow for transferring a +r to -r should not really cause any issues, except if the +r (source) has had a COMPLETE burn (ie the full disc used), because it is commonly known that +r can hold a tad more data........not much just a tad...... However what your experiencing (from what I can see) is a simple reading error of the source disc..... You say the source reads OK in your dvdrom/standalone - it will.........you may not notice the error because whilst playing, dvdrom/standalone have VERY good error correction.......if trying to take that data off at around 6000Kb/sec and there are slight issues then it will cause problems..... There are a couple of things to try in the mean time. 1.Do a simple copy and paste of the VIDEO_TS folder to your HD, if there is a bad area on it then it will cause the process to hang at the error point (speed will decrease to 0.0x)...this would confirm a bad area. 2.If that was successful, then just burn that VIDEO_TS folder using the data option in Recordnow. OR Try dvd decrypter in ISO read/write or FILE mode and do the complete disc. OR Use the BUILD GLOBAL IMAGE in Recordnow - just takes an image of the dvd and saves it to your HD, then if that was successful, select burn image and point it at taht file. OR (yes another one) You could reduce the speed of the disc to disc down to min - proabably would take 1hour to burn - BUT I do not think this would work (may end up with a coaster)........ OR (and another) In Recordnow, instead of using the copy function, open up data and just select the dvdrom as the target source (kinda like copy and paste but within recordnow) and your burner as the recorder, and make sure you have New volume entered and not load last track etc......(may also produce a coaster) The main thing you need is to transfer the disc to the HD, to make sure that the data is stored and not try the disc to disc....... If one of the above options works, then great......however if it doesn't I do suggest you re-rip the original, that way you will get the required results.... Anyway I have got sore fingers now LOL..... Let us know how you get on........ _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down [/small]
baa, Below is the error I receive when ripping from -r source using dvd decrypter: I/O Error! Device: [0:0:0] Samsung Dvd-rom sd-616e f501 (d SCSI STATUS: 0X02 Interpretation: Check condition CDB: 28 00 00 20 32 f1 00 00 01 00 Interpretation: Read (10) - sECTOR: 2110193 Sense Area: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 11 00 00 00 00 00 Interpretation: Unrecovered read error. As you said, it's a read error. Now is the the sector a "partition" w/in the VOB1, 2, 3, etc. file?
Yep, looks like a read error...... The sector number displayed is the location of the read error occurance. Right you can check which VOB is causing the problem in several ways, but the easiest will highlight your problem...... You can individually copy and paste (just using windows) each VOB in turn to the hard drive - it will freeze on the improper VOB then. Or whilst using dvd decryptor - instead of looking at the log it produces, look at the VOB list which it shows as default (right hand side of screen (must be in FILE mode though. Also on the left hand side it displays the current VOB it is processing......again this will highlight the problem VOB....... Have a look at http://www.chrismccann.co.uk for a dvd decryptor FILE mode guide I wrote.... I have also written a Recordnow guide on that site aswell (which you may find useful)..........
Heehee........Baabaa scampers around the corner - where's that dam sheep got to........ Found some spare time in a cupboard so I thought I would put it to good use, where I can........ Don't think this is ASPI related yet...(still don't use it, but have done some background reading, just in case)....LOL
Sense: 03 ASC: 11 ASCQ: 00 (Command 28) I had exactly the sam symptoms...and several new coasters. What finally fixed it for me was downloading the latest recording engine from Sonic pxengine1_08_34a.exe and setting the option to "one time burn". I don't know what that is in english as have german software. Its the option that says you don't want to add more data to the disk. I suspect that was the actual problem but having the latest burner engine can't hurt.
2 months and resurrected......LOL..... Yes, what the pxengine update does is in fact upgrade the media compatibility and also the support of newer burners available...... You may have encountered that error because of the media you were copying from (source) or to (destination). If you had a pemanent blemish/scratch/unreadable(truely unreadable) error, then the pxengine update would not have any affect on the outcome...... But still, always worthwhile mentioning the pxengine update as alot of people forget that it may improve problems encountered. And the error you two encountered is NOT ALWAYS a permanent read error, and in your case it obviously wasn't BUT the pxengine update cured it......Nice one.....
Yes the wonder of the Internet - someone has always had exactly the same error as you before... I had the problem both copying a DVD and burning directly from Sonic's MyDVD. Funny thing with MyDVD was I could burn to a DVD+RW but not to a DVD+R. Any way it works now.
