I followed this guide http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=241422 I converted the audio to MP3 , and it plays in my standalone player , but the picture looks like a reverse wide screen , the sides are cut off . There is no video actualy missing , just the people in the video seem thinner[ on my pc or tv ] . The original matroska file still plays as a regular full screen on my pc .

The video is playing at a differant size once its removed from the MKV container

mkv supports AR signaling. That way it can playback at a different AR than it is encoded at.

Well if it is XviD then the video stream itself probably contains AR info. If your player ignores that, then you would have to resize. For PC playback you can use different player/filter; one that does respect PAR info. You can check the file with MPEG4Modifier to see if it does have a non 1:1 PAR.
