Want to make a SVCD using Nero 5.5.9.14. Planning to use chapters and menu with thumbnail images for easy access to movie. Followed all instructions. Preview shows menu how I want it to be, with all pictures and correct text. Movie has 5 tracks. Menu shows all items. After burning a CDR the movie plays well. All chapters are accessable with "next" and "previous" buttons on DVD player. Problem: "menu" is black, no thumbnail (images), no text. "Menu" is first track on cd. Plz help... Tia, Peter.
did you opt to have nero create a "PICTURES" folder on the SVCD? I only ask because it sounds like it previewed fine on your pc because the pictures were on your hard drive but not on the CD ?? I believe there is an option you need to "check" which is unchecked by default to create this "PICTURES" folder. Hope this helps!
Well, that's what I am going to try. Tnx for the hint Update: after checking the option "storing pictures in pictures", I still don't have a menu... Still black... :-( Sec update: e-mail to Ahead support. Hope they got something. So far no answer.
I am about to leave work and go home. I will test this functionality myself at that point and let you know if I find anything..
using nero, if you break your mpg into separate movie files, then add these separate files to your SVCD, it will create the menu the way you wanted using thumbnails, in theory.. you can also use the guides here: http://www.doom9.org/mpg/svcd-guides.htm this has a guide for TSCV, which is the closest thing available to working software for the creation of menus.. very buggy at best, believe me I tried to use it.. I think if you stick to the guide, you might be O.K., but its not easy, especially if you don't have the original vob files in order to use Chapter Xtractor.. the VCDEasy guide is great, the software is easy to use and not as buggy, but does not currently (yet) support menus. I know this is not great news, but the good news is that the development is out there, even if all we have is a barely working beta for now! hopefully more to come soon.. best of luck!
Again thanks for the reply. I found that most programs are too complex for me. So on DVD.BOX.SK webpage I found two programs wich are easy for me. I use DVD Decrypter to copy the DVD (only the movie part) on my HD. Well... I don't need DVD Decrypter, but it saves me a lot of time (DVD Decryptor takes about 20 minutes to copy). Also I strip the unwanted languages, angles and subtitles to save HD space (4.25 GB for average movie). Then I use DVDx to convert the VOB's on the HD into MPEG2 files. With DVDx I make the chapters. It takes something like 12-13 hrs to convert a 1h30m movie to MPEG2 (P4 - 2 GHz - 512 MB Ram). I could use DVDx to directly convert the DVD cd to MPEG2, but if the DVD cd is bad, DVDx hangs and that cost me some time... Last but not least, I use NERO to burn the SVCD. The fun part is that NERO can create an SVCD with the MPEG2 files as input. I just "drag" and "drop" the MPEG2 chapters into NERO's file browser. Then I go to the "video compilation" menu, enable "menu" checkbox. Fill in the number of thumbnails and type the text. Back to the file browser, I correct the "properties" of each MPEG2 track (or chapter), by right-clicking on each chapter. Another "preview", "menu" looks fine... Let's burn. Well, only getting a black screen on the "menu" part. UPDATE: got "menu" working. After playing with several settings I found that: - select "ISO level 2 (max of 31 chars)", tab "ISO", when creating a SVCD in Nero. - unchecked all checkboxes at "Relax ISO restrictions". - check box "Joliet" - check box "Iso 9660" in "Character set". The "store pictures" in "pictures" directory has nothing to do with SVCD. It's used for still video, like a dia slideshow. Well... I'm happy The result looks exactly the same as my DVD, so LET'S BURN... --- To answer your question about DVDx 2.0: - "settings", "output settings" - look at "volume don't exeed" - select "custom chapter" - click on "settings" - click on the first chapter - click on "create volume" - click on the next chapter, UNSELECT the previous chapter - click on "create volume" etc... - click on "close". PLEASE note that I made the IFO file with DVD Decryptor, and I start DVDx with menu "File", "open IFO", open the ifo file.
So, with DVDx you are creating separate .MPG files for each chapter? I suppose that should work, haven't tried this myself. This is very interesting to me and I think I will spend some time trying to figure this out when I get home today.. both for your sake, and for my own.
Very cool! I will have to try this out later, I have often wondered about making DVD type menu's for my SVCD's.. this is perfect, that is as long as you have the separate mpg's for each chapter, Nero kicks ass!
