I have a problem writing to a CD-RW using any tool (Nero log is attached below). It started giving this problems few weeks ago. I seem to have the same problem even if I connect an external CDR/RW device too my computer. The problem is that the system copies all the files to a CD-RW and takes a long time during the lead in-lead out and close session and says it is complete, but then later if the system tries to read the files the system cannot read the file. CD-R disk work fine so do DVD-R's copied using the same drive it is only a problem with the CD-RW. I tried new service packs, reinstall burning software, machine reinstall etc. none of them corrected the problem. I tried 3 burning softwares, XP, Instant Copy, Nero and iTunes. All have the same problem Please note: the system can read CD-RW as well as without any problem the problem is only in writting to it. Help Please! I tried with 2 brands of CD-RW's - SONY and Imation. I had burnt quite a few CD-RW's with Imation disk on the same Drive earlier.
Hi, So, for the sake of clarity, this problem occurs even when you use and brand new never-before-written-to disc? Are you able to try the drive in another PC? We can isolate whether the problem is your drive or your system by doing so
DDP! (damn double post) _X_X_X_X_X_[small] "And there we saw the giants ... And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight." Numbers 13:33[/small]
The drive is on a Laptop so I could not test it in another. However, I connected a USB based iomega CDR/RW drive and tried burning the CD-RW’s it too had the same problem. This iomega drive works to write on the Same CD-RW when connected to another PC.
Guess we can't test the drive in another PC If the Iomega messes up on your laptop as well it's definitely a problem with the system and not the drive itself. We may try a ASPI update. ASPI is basically a driver layer that sits between your drive and software. ForceASPI is a good one so here's a link to the download and instuctions: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101614 Let us know if this does the trick
Unfortunately, it does not :-(. I still get the problem with the new drivers installed. I tried both the internal and external drives. But are these drivers effective on XP. I saw only NT and Win9x info in the installer.
