I copy my DVD using: DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD on my HD, then DVD Shrink to create an ISO image file on the HD and finally Nero to burn the image file.
I was able to do this for a lot of time, but suddenly it didn’t work anymore: the image file on HD is OK (I can play it with Power DVD mounting it on a virtual device) but after the burning, when I play the DVD on the PC in the same device that burned it, the movie is not OK: it stops for some seconds then restarts, the audio is out of sync, there are subtitle that wasn’t supposed to be there….
DVD Decrypter and DVD shrink are up to date, Nero is a little old (6.3.0.3) but I tried also using Clone DVD2 (2.7.5.1) and directly DVD Shrink with the same problems.
The burner is a BCT DRW1016MI and I tried with different media: TDK, Sony, Philips.
I can explain why it doesn’t work anymore.
Can you, please, tell me what else I can check?
I am sorry if this isn't the correct forum to submit the problems, please tell me where I can ask
    Thanks

I don't specifically know the answer to your question but I think people will tell you to use 'file mode' instead of 'image' with decryptor. Image works for sure because that is how I used to do it but I'm told it's not the best way. Maybe you could try it that way.

When I rip the movie I use DVD Decrypter in File mode to transfer the content of the DVD on my HD.
Then I read the file with DVD Shrink (Open file from the VIDEO_TS directory) and I Re-author the movie with DVD Shrink.
At the end of the Re-authoring, when I do the Back-up with DVD shrink, instead of burning directly the DVD, I use the "ISO image file" target to create an ISO file on my HD.
This ISO file is OK: I can play it with Power DVD and a virtual drive.
But when I burn it on the DVD the movie is no more OK (it stops for some seconds then restarts, the audio is out of sync.... I tried different burning tool (Nero, Alcohol 120%, Clone DVD2 ) but the problem is always the same.
    What can I check?
Is it possible that is a problem of the DVD burner?
Please, help me to understand how can do it
    Thanks

Are you setting your target image in Shrink? You need to set the target to 4300 so that you do not burn too close to the edge of the disc. Burning too close causes the problems that you are having. Also bad media. Please post the media codes for the disc that you are burning.

You can read the codes of the media from decrypter or get dvdinfopro from http://www.filepedia.com

    Post back.

As 9mmruger1 requested what kind of media are you using? Also open Decrypter and go into your Tools tab, then Drive and capabilities and check the make/model and current ver. of firmware to insure it is up to date, it looks like this

Also if you have a Nero log of your burn please cut and paste that in you post it will give the info. Go into My Computer, Program Files, Ahead, Nero, Nero History.

When I do the back up with Shrink, in the Windows "Backup DVD", in the field “Select backup target” I choose the value “ ISO Image File”
    What do wou mean?

The burner is a BCT DRW1016MI and the characteristics are:
    Device 2:0:0 DVDRW IDE 16X A07M (F:) ATA
(I’m sorry but I don’t now how to post images, I tried simply copy and paste but I doesn’t work)
I know the firmware is a little old but I’m not so sure in doing an upgrade because I was told that it is dangerous: is it so?

I’m trying to fin the media code for the DVD that I used (they were TDK, Philips and Sony) but I don’t know how to find it in DVD Decrypter.

    Thanks for your help

To set target size in shrink click Edit>Preferences>and on the preferences tab click the down arrow and select "Custom" then type in 4300 and click okay.

This from your log shows you have burned too close to the edge IMHO.

Your version of Nero needs to be updated current is 6.6.0.16

This firmware is 5 updates behind no wonder you are having problems with the burner recognizing media. Yes flashing is always a risk, but by the same token if you do not do it your burner cannot recognize newer media and burning speeds. If you are not having problems then do not flash, but if you beging to have difficulties burning it is time to up date. The current version for this drive is
    A187

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1913

9mmruger1 is right you are burning to the edge of the disk reset the target size in Shrink

In the box select custom and then type in 4300 to 4364

Why dont you just set it up to go back automatically to Decrypter after using DVDshrink and use Decrpypter to burn the movie to the DVD?

If he is already using Decyptor to Rip.......why doen't he just select and use Decryptor to burn, he already has a burning software he is using.........I've "NEVER" used Nero to burn, only DECRYPTOR, and never had a problem burning. I also use it to "Make a copy of a copy" even though I have Roxio and Nero.

I use Verbatim disk and have preference set to 4300 just as arniebear stated, that way it doesn't burn all the way to the end of the disc. I also use only the "file" mode with Decyptor.

But since I got AnyDvd (what a great offer for Afterdawn users---$10.00 off) I very seldom use Decryptor. I try and keep it simple.

You never said what movie you were trying to back up. Some movies have "issues"............try something simple are maybe another movie if you haven't tried that yet. good luck hut

Burning with Decrypter is fine if you only want to burn iso files as this is all Decrypter can burn if you have VOB files you will need a program like Nero to burn.

Now that I thought about it, maybe someone could tell use the advantages of using Nero to burn. I've never used it to burn so I can't really speak to it........of course I never had a problem burning with Decryptor so I never thought about it. Thanks

Why dont you just set it up to go back automatically to Decrypter after using DVDshrink and use Decrpypter to burn the movie to the DVD?

What are the advantages of not having an iso file, but the vob files. These are the original files that I see when I initially rip the dvd to my hard drive. Isn't it better to have one big file as oppossed to a lot of little ones?

    Unfortunately I stil have problems.
I updated the firmware, now the situation is:
    Device: [2:0:0] DVDRW IDE 16X A187 (F:) (ATA)
I set the target DVD size of shrink to 4300.
I shrink the movie and after I burn the iso image file with both CloneDVD2 (2.7.5.1)and DVD Decrypter (3.5.4) ISO mode but in both case I sill hve problems (the movie stops for some seconds and then starts again).
The media is a sony DVD-RW (media code is RITEKW01)
Now I'm doing the test with National treasure, but I have had similar problems with different movies (The day after tomorrow,Meet the Fockers...)

Do you have some other suggestion?
Have I to change my burner?

    Thanks
