I just bought a BenQ 1650 with an external enclosure for my Sony laptop.
    Here's the enclosure
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817155706

I plugged in the USB port but the laptop doesn't recognize the drive. It didn't appear on My Computer. I tried doing My Computer --- Manage --- Disk Management but I still don't see the DVD drive.
I pretty sure I switched the jumper to Master (it's not in the middle anymore)

Please help me get this thing work

    Thank you so much

    Hi!

    Thank you for the link.
I checked my Device Manager and the USB and the BenQ is not under Disk Drives. And under the USB controllers, there's no USB Mass Storage Device either.
I wonder what I did wrong.

However, whenever I turn on the external, I hear my laptop made the sound of Window XP Hardware Insert. And when I turn it off, it made the sound of Window XP Hardware Remove

In the picture, there's a gray wire on the left. I have one like that in my enclosure but I don't know where to put it so I left in unconnected. Is that one reason for my drive to not work?

Whenever I turn on the device, USB Mass Storage appear in USB Controllers but with a YELLOW EXCLAMATION MARK next to it. Do you know how to solve this problem.

    Thank you very mcuh

    Hi,
The grey cable to which you refer is an analogue audio plug. As there isn't a need for this nowadays (digital sound transferred via IDE cable) the current BenQs don't have a socket.
It maybe just a case of incompatability between yuor caddy & either the drive or you laptop. Could even be both. When I suggested this caddym I didn't realise that although the same make of chipset is uased in this caddy. It's a different version to mine (probably as mine is USB/FireWire).
See this post, especially the links. I realise that this a pain. But is looking necessary.

Hi! Thank you for all your help.
I decided to return both items and get the Kingwin that you recommended and exchanged the BenQ for a new one in case the problem was about the BenQ. I hope everything would work out.

I have a question about returning the items to NewEgg. Do I send them back by UPS Ground like they sent me or by USPS, do you know?

Anyway, thank you for all your help

    @ angel9891

i don't think it would matter which way you shipped the items back to newegg but if you would like to know for sure which to send them back i would give newegg a call and ask them.

I have a question about the BenQ 1650 OEM. Does it come with Nero software because last time when I bought one, it came with the Nero but this time, there's no Nero CD software

    Thanks

    Hi redice!

Do you think I should ask the Newegg people about this? Or the Nero only comes with selective BenQ

    Thanks

    Hi angel9891

yes you should ask newegg about it and be sure to tell them that your last benq 1650 that you order but had to send back came with nero software for it.

i also just looked up the benq 150 on the newegg site and its not showing the nero disc with it anymore.(which is a little strange)

Thank you redice! I'll email them about this.

And I'm having a problem with my new external and the drive again.
This time when I plugged in the USB port. Nothing happened, period.

No sounds, no USB mass storage, no Found new hardware.

Is it because of my laptop or the USB wire? cuz the drive eject when I push the button.

I did safe mode cleaning, install Service Pack 2 and still nothing happen.

This is really a pain. lOL

    Can someone help me, please
