I have a Hyundai V6h player which accepts a USB drive and outputs to the TV. It handles various file types, including AVI. But some AVI's won't play. Nor will they load in tmpGenc where I was hoping to convert them to something that would. They do play fine with VLC player on the computer. How can I establish what the problem is with the bad ones, and how best they be converted. I don't fully understand the guff on this but does this give any clues ? 1280x544 pixels, 128k audio and 25 frames per second 1979 kbps data rate fails. 616x336 pixels 128k audio and 23 frames per second 1034 kbps data rate is OK. Compare the two files using MediInfo to see which codecs they use. The example shown has the video using the XviD codec, the audio is MP3. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_software/mp3_tools/mediainfo.cfm
Ahhh, thanks guys. I've learned two valuable lessons here. 1280x544 is HD. Not sure how 'HD' the Hyundai is but my TV isn't. Also, I didn't appreciate tmpGenc needed an external codec to function... assumed it did everything itself. I downloaded Medinfo which identified what was needed (xvid 1.1.3) and provided a link to get it. Marvellous! Now tmpGenc will load the file. Next step is save in a Hyundai compatible format. Is 720x544 OK ? Have PAL 16:9 aspect and 25 fps. Is that the best framerate and is progressive or interlaced better?
The only thing I could see about the Hyundai media player is that it was 720p - which infers it could handle up to 1280x720. I use a WDTV player which can handle that size and output to an analog TV ok. One thing I don't know is if media players have the same 2GB size limit for AVI files that DVD players have.
The spec says Screen Resolution HD-720p There's also HDMI output but I can't use that. The avi I was trying to play was 2,348,597,248 bytes. But it also wouldn't load into tmpGenc. Does the same 2G limit apply? I'll know soon if the Hyundai will play >2GB and let you know. Has anyone else got one of these or know of a User group or website? Thanks.
I might be wrong, but my thinking is your player cannot handle the high resolution. "Screen resolution 720p" and the HDMI might imply that it upscales,upconverts, whatever the terminology, to 720P, however, under "Video Decoding", the max listed is SD suff, 480i/p and 576i/p.You might have to re-encode to a max resolution of 720x480 . http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ This program will do a nice fast job: What do you think attar? . Edit: I see you already have tmpGenc as a converter, never-mind my suggestion(although is a very light and good application).
Hi cyprusrom I'm about 72% through encoding something at 720x480 (fortunately!) Using 25 fps... still not sure if that's the best, ok etc. Will find out soon. Plus see if it'll play a file >2gig. I think the device should be outputting 480 or 576 lines over the composite line no matter what the resolution of the input - unless it's acting like a DVD player and rejecting AVI files that exceed 720x576 which MotorMoa is testing.
No,for that converter tha I linked you to, you don't need any other codec installed. One thing you can try, just to make sure for future reference. You can cut a small piece of that file that's 1280x544 and see if it will play, this way you'd be sure the resolution or something else is the problem and not the 2GB limit.
Success. The converted file plays fine. I also tried another that was 2,429,049,038 bytes and that played OK as well in the Hyundai. (It's resolution was also 720 x 480) Since installing xvid I'm finding other AVIs that wouldn't load into tmpGenc now will. I may be on top of this now and be able to convert any that need it. Thank you both very much. Still very interested to contact someone else with a Hyundai v6h. One small problem is sudden splotches of colour (green mostly) when watching something. Rewind and it's not there the next time. I'm still testing as it may be the flash drive. Also looking for firmware updates if available. The book mentions this, but can't find a website and the email given bounces.
Not sure where you bought the player(curious how much you paid for it!!!), but I can't seem to find a proper web site for it. There are dozens of distributors sites, but that's about it...It almost seems to be some cheap Chinese knock off, not sure how much support you'll get. Hopefully it was cheap enough, otherwise for about $100 one can have a really good WD player like attar mentioned...

Sounds like a Chinaman 3 rooms away yelling back at you (a recording?) then cuts off. Chances of getting any new firmware isn't good !
