hi, im an enthusiastic newbie to the dvd ripping/burning world, but ive been having some very frustrating problems so i hope someone can help me out...

im using dvd shrink and dvd decrypter, and my first few projects were on the scrubs season one discs 1-3. after shrunking them and burning them, ive been able to play them on my computer but i cant play them on my stand alone dvd player. im using memorex blank dvds, which ive read can be problematic, but before i go out and spend more dough on a new spindle of discs, i just want to make sure that im not doing anything wrong.

you see, im a newbie and ive searched the forums to check if anything has been posted about this, but i havent been able to find anything. is it normal for burnt dvds not to play on stand alone dvd players? should i get a new player?

    thanks so much in advance...

    Welcome to aD!
Yes it is not unusual for dvd players to be picky on what they will play. The key is to find what works best for your set up. Some tips to increase playback compatability: Don't burn at max speed, use quality discs (taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DatalifePlus), and if you drive supports booktyping - booktype the discs. Booktyping makes a +r disc appear to be a dvd-rom which is the most compatable format.
Stay away from Memerox and crap media. Nothin but problems.
Here's a great thread that has alot of useful info and a link to some guides:

This is common issue of dvd backups. There are lots of threads about this, just normal playback issues.Stand alone players have a harder time reading dvd +r and dvd dash r.

First off we need some info:
What is the brand name/format/and speed of blank media?Example Maxell +8x.
How fast did you burn that blank disc?
What is the model brand name and model# of your dvd-rw drive?
What is the current firmware of that burner?
Is that player giving some sort of No Disc inserted error?

Use this free handy tool to find that info and post back:

Media quality is the first thing: [bold]im using memorex blank dvds[/bold]

Use that tool I linked you to to Find that MID code of your memosux!

A new player is a last resort.Lots of things you can try before spending $ on a new player.

get the model number of your dvd player from the back of it and head on over to videohelp.com. look up your dvd player and see what media works best with it. there are reviews for many many many dvd players and it will tell you which dvd media works well and what doesnt and will also tell you which will work as far as + or - goes.

you can also look up your dvd burner as well.
