I will go through all the steps I have taken to put a downloded copy of a movie onto a dvd that was in a bin and cue format and then let you know what dvd players it will play in and ones it wont and the message errors that get displayed, so I can see if I am skipping a step or not. First off all I use Daemon to mount the image, from there I use vcd gear(great program by the way) to convert it from mpeg to mpeg. I then use Winavi to convert the mpeg to a dvd and then use dvd shrink(nero) to back up the dvd. In the options menu, I make sure to select that it will burn as "region free". Now, I can play the dvds in my cyberhome dvd player recorder. If I take into my room and put it in my sony 5 disc changer surrond sound, it verifies that it is a dvd, but I get this error message "playback prohibited by area limitations" I have no idea what that means except for maybe it has some region protection on the disc. I then took it into another rom and tried to play it on another sony dvd player that I have and I get the same exact error message. All of my players are capable of playing dvd-r+r-rw and so on as many as there are. Why would I get this message? Just for some help and this is kind of a double post cause it could go into a dvd backing up forum also, but anyways. I used AnyDVD to check the summary and this is what it says Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 5.8.3.1) Drive (Hardware) Region: free Media is a Data DVD. Booktype: dvd-r (version 5), Layers: 1 Video DVD (or CD) label: New Media is not CSS protected. Video Standard: NTSC Media is region free. RCE protection not found. DVD structure appears to be correct. Structural copy protection not found. Autorun not found on Video DVD. Bad sector protection not found. Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1! The type of dvds that I use are verbatim -r. Any suggestions on to perhaps program the dvd players to allow this or what exactly that error message means? I have misplaced my owners manuals for the sonys so I have no idea what it means. Thanks in advance!!!
Ok, so anyways it looks like the dvd is still in PAL format and thats why it wont play in my sonsy but will play in the cyberhome. I figured this out but using a program used AVIcodec. It took me a little while to figure out how to read if it was pal or ntsc, cause it doenst come right out and say, but for PAL format in the video box at the bottom you will seen screen resolution of 352x288 and the ntsc will read 720x480. That is how you know the region. Since the original was in pal format, even though I selected the disc to be region free it did nothing, which blows cause now I got 4 coasters unless I want to move my cyberhome all over my home. But anyways this may help for others. You can simply change the pal to ntsc with some conversion programs that you download off the net. Im sure if you search around here long enough you can find some recommendations! Good luck to the next one!!
