Hi. This question has probobly been answered on these forums, but since I can't seem to find the search button I'm going to ask anyways.

When I got my xbox modded a few years ago it was working just fine, then about 4-5 months ago it just stoped working... I asked the guy who modded it and he said that it was probobly just dust, so I cleaned it out (yes, all parts are still there) but it still didn't work.
When I press the power button it starts with the usual green light around it, but no picture on the tv... then it starts flashing red. It wont let me do anything... can't even open the dvd-tray :S
If you need any more information, just tell me since I don't know whats wrong... my guess is that I need to reinstall the OS or something like that.

Wow my guess is a bad video chip or output. Really there's not a good way to check it, easiest way to fix it is to get another xbox.

In that case I'll just put my money on a 360 instead... but is there a way to recover the contents of the hdd that was in it? From what I've read its only possible if the xbox is still working, but I'd like to make sure before I do something stupid :p

eh i've been buyin xbox's from craigslist.org for about $60 that come with games, u can build an eeprom reader and get your eeprom, unlock that hard drive and throw it in a new box using that eeprom to lock it.

I believe you can hotswap the drive too after the xbox unlocks it using explorer 360 or something like that. I never did it so i can't tell you. Search on this site for hotswap to computer and you should find what you're looking for.

I see... thanks for your help :)
I'll be building myself a eeprom then so I can unlock the drive since I don't feel like paying for a new xbox. Thou I'll be saving the harddrives content in case I realy do buy an xbox again :p

yup i'm fixing an xbox tonight that requires the eeprom to be read, then i'm gonna unlock the drive, then use xplorer360 to read and modify the contents of the drive, then lock it and try it.

Anyway if u try it this way use those two programs it's ponyprog and xplorer360.

Let me know how this goes, feel free to post pics of your eeprom reader, i'm goin to later when i finally get it built.
