Problem when updating iPod....help!

Lately when I've gone to charge/update my iPod(iTunes automatically updates my playlist when I connect my iPod to the computer), I've been losing songs. For instance, I just went to charge my iPod and I had 560 songs. When it was done with the automatic update, there were 555 songs. Does anyone know why it's doing this and/or how to fix it? My brother has an iPod too and his own playlist that automatically updates, and he's been having the same problem. I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks!

well ive been readin so much stuff on ipods lately to fix the problem with mine but from what i have picked up i THINK that has something to do with the option in itunes to do that if the song isnt in itune but its on your ipod it removed that song form the ipod so basicly disable that option and update the songs manualy

It could be a firmware issue. Try downgrading your firmware if you are running v1.1 to v1.0 and that may fix the prob. ;-)

Ok, thanks. And I don't want to sound stupid or anything, but how do you disable that option?(I assume you go to Edit, and then Preferences, but where to from there?) Thanks again!

    Disable what option, exactly?

jazo123-How can I find out what type of firmware I'm running? Sorry, I'm usually good with computers and stuff, but iTunes and iPod things can really mess me up sometimes. :)

Oh, the option I was talking about was what cdragon mentioned.

No Problem, by the way, nobody sounds stupid here, everybody needs to learn from somebody ;-)

On your iPod go to [bold]settings-->about[/bold]. Then next to version it will say either 1.0 or 1.1. Which does it say?

Yep, then it's not a firmware issue. Where are you getting you're music from i.e. Limewire, Bearshare, iTunes)?

Mostly from iTunes and a bunch of other songs uploaded from CD's.

Then in iTunes go to advanced-->check for purchases. Then it will give you your purchased music back into your libray that is missing.

As for solving the problem, I'm not sure why that is happening. Maybe downloading the latest version of iTunes will help the prob. ;-)
