I have read, and re-read the forum on how to copy these disks, but my issue is disk 2.

I can copy disk 1 without problem (using DVDxCopy and/or DVD Decryptor) but disk 2 is "not found."

My computer "does not see" the disk when I put it in. The second disk contains the last part of the movie, and when using dvd decryptor, it DOES NOT ask for disk 2 to finish the main movie.

    Any ideas???

Hello wr9966, Welcome to the A/D Forum,

The only thing that asks for the second disc is your DVD player as it is part of the menu.

I suggest you use DVD Shrink to do your backups. Here is a link for that and a guide too. You can use Nero Classic to burn.

    Shrink download - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
    Shrink Guide -
    http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm

A 30-day, free, fully functional Nero 6 download can be had here:
    http://www.nero.com/us/631939541422774.php

As long as Nero is on your PC, DVD Shrink can use that to burn so long as you follow the DVD Shrink Guide -

    Cheers,

    Pete

I didn't have any problems backing up Gang of New York Disc 2 (used DVD Shrink and Nero). The software will not recognize it as being split into two discs, so you will not receive a message to place disc 2 in. You need to back up each disc individually as if it were two different movies.

NOTE: disc is used when talking about a circular disk (me and my roommate had a discussion about this & I was correct)

Thanks, but I am still having issues (or is it a brain fart?) as I used DVD Shrink - but again - it never asked for disk 2 during the process. So I have a "shrank" disk 1 - and I am debating on burning it, but if the "menu" askes for disk 2 - wont the shrank disk also???

Since the software does not ask for disk 2 and I can not get it to read disk 2 - am I still in the same spot?

The 2nd disc may be defective if you cannot get software to recognize it. Again, Shrink or Decrypt will not ask you to insert disc 2. Okay, DVD Shrink will only compress the movie for you, so it will not read the disc and notice that there is a second disc for the movie. Like I said, you need to "shrink" the two discs as if they were different movies. If Shrink isn't recognizing the 2nd disc, then more than likely there is a problem with the disc. Is the software not recognizing the disc at all or is it giving you an error?

Shrink does not know that there is another disc. (disc 2) Just back up disc 1 to a folder or if you are using Shrinks burn function, do that. When thats completed, Close Shrink. Now open it again and repeat the process for the second disc.

Are you are trying to put the whole movie on one disc? I'm assuming you are not. Sounds like you have #1 completed, so just put in #2 and there should not be a problem. Don't try and put the output into the folder where disc #1 files are located. Make a seperate folder for #2.

(Why is it that some don't read what I write - )

The programs that you're using aren't playing your DVD, they're looking at it like a bunch of files. They don't care what's in the files, they're just ripping them and compressing them -

NOW that we've gotten past the "it's not asking for disk two," let's move on - When I ripped the GoNY, I put both discs on a single DVD. You process each one, Movie only PLEASE and then put them together using DVD Shrink (or Nero's recode3) in the re-Author mode OR, try DVD2One and put them together in the "Join" mode.

Relax there my friend, we'll get you there - no one here will hand you poor advice - if they did, they would be corrected pretty darn quickly (lol)

    cheers,

    Pete
