My TV is a Philips 42FD9954, and I am having a strange problem. When I connect the DVI-d cable from my cable box to the TV, I get a picture for about 3-4 seconds, then the picture dissapears. If I turn the cable box off, then back on, the picture returns for 3-4 sec., then is gone again. There is no option in the TV setup menu to configure the DVI input, so I don't know what else to do. It seems like the TV wont recognize the signal, but why do I get a clean picture for 4 seconds?

Cable company says it is a problem with the TV. Philips says it is a problem with my cable.

Anyone have any ideas? Can't figure it out...
    Any help VERY MUCH appreciated...

Check to see if your Plasma is HDCP compliant. If it is not, that is your problem

I think this may be the problem. If my TV is not HDCP compatible, is there any way around it? Or is my DVI completly useless?

    Thanks for the help!

It won't work at all. HDCP is the new copywrite protection built in to digital signal. You might google it to find a converter but I don't know of one.
In the worst scenario use componentfrom your cable box if it has it. Its still a very good picture and most are of the opinion that component is better than DVI from a DVD player.

I would agree with that, though im not sure its better, just i think component (if the correct cable is used) is the better choice.

hi, r u shure your set needs dvi-d? My 32pf9976 needs dvi-i. One of the weird things is that if u'd connect it with dvi-d to for instance a pc it would capture the signal but, because of some kinda sync prob, loose it again. Sounds weird, looks weird too. Not shure but it looks like it needs analog for the video + digital for the sync and recognition of the tv.

Right now i connected my set using a hq dvi-i male-male dual link which solved that prob.

Maybe you can try connecting your set using svga?
