Cheers Brobear, and I can't help but agree, it's something I've done, or put on my PC.
Now I've got it working, maybe not according to the rules lol I think I'll quit while I'm ahead, and stick at that. many thanks for your help tho.

    regards mike/gringle

I've solved the problem about the movie "little black book cannot be ripped" Just use dvd decrypter (the newest version)read it as a iso file...and let it rip on a temp folde. Then use dvd shrink to encode it....go to file and choose iso image where you saved the iso image in the first place.Thenb you can use any application to burn the iso image....i.e. nero, easy media creator 7 and so on.....Enjoy!

Thanks for that little tidbit of info. In the last few days DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD have gone to a new version that covers the sony unreadable sector encryption. So the solution is simply update the software. If one doesn't have it they can download the freeware or a retail trial.

These work with a variety of programs, including DVD Shrink.

Actually, it's a encoding error. What I did (and it works) was the same I had to do with Bourne Supremacy. Do this.

1.Use DVD Decrypter to pull it off the disk onto the hard drive.

2.Once You've done that open DVD Shrink and pull the files into it. (open files).

3.Goto "unreferenced materials", It will be on your left top. Once you click on unreferenced maaterials you will see an option on the right. By default it says "automatic", Change it to "still picture". Press Backup and your all set.

    Hope this has helped.

P.S. Trotter, if you work for a movie store, or have a friend that does you can get movies about a week early.

You must have missed my post. Checking with the DVD Decrypter Forum you will find out the new version of Decrypter will handle the unreadable sector encryption used by Sony. A bunch of the new movies have it and it's not an encoding error. In fact, the new version of AnyDVD now has a window that indicates the encryption on the target disk before going to work on it. The encryption is much heavier on Little Black Book and Resident Evil than on Bourne Supremacy. DVD Decrypter had some patches for certain movies until the latest version was released. Once again you can check with the DVD Decrypter Forum. After all, lightning UK should know his own program.

You're welcome. I've found the forum at http://www.dvddecrypter.com a handy source of info. If you like the app, you might want to check it out from time to time. The author of the program makes appearances to answer questions and give help.

I've copied Friday Night Lights to my harddrive using Decrypter and after opening the files in DVDShrink, when I go to backup it freezes after 1%, I've read that quite a few have fixed this problem with AnyDVD and other various sorts, but I still cannot get mine to fully backup. I have the updated version of AnyDVD and it hasn't helped with DVDShrink at all, I did get The Forgotten backup'd successfully with Decrypter and DVDShrink but I can't seem to have any luck with Friday Night Lights. I know this question has been asked a lot but does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get this to work properly. I've also tried VOBlanker and DVDShrink won't recognize due to some memory issue.

    Thanks : )

    Carpe Diem!

DVDCopy3 is a good program and comes with a 3 week trial. http://www.intervideo.com Record the ripped file with this program to see if it will backup the movie. If it does, you know the problem is with the Shrink setup. Make sure your Direct X is up to date as noted in the software requirements.

A couple of things, vague question, so I'll give some possibilities. Program files can become corrupted. I've had to reinstall DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink on different occasions. This is best done by deleting the programs, cleaning up with spyware/adware cleaners and then running a registry cleaner (Spybot, Ad-Aware SE, SpySweeper). Taking for granted anti virus software is used at least once a week. Do a quick scan here. Reboot and install the programs. Reboot before use of apps. Use latest versions.

Thanks trinic. Thanks a ton. It seems like someone always assumes you know this one little detail and that little detail can screw up the entire process. I figured out using dvd decryptor to put it on my harddrive and such but it wouldnt work with shrink when i went to open image. That still frame thingy solved everything. Thanks for simplifying for us common folk.

Trinic1 had it right....i had backed up with decrypter but FNL simply would stop almost immediately after using DVD Shrink until i followed his instructions and did the unreferenced materials suggestion. Thanks. Here are his directions again!

I have never run into any of these problems but I belive this is why.
I dont copy any extras, just the main movie
Here is how I did Friday Night Lights, RE2, & LBB
    All without an issue
Ripped with Decrypter in file mode with setting of main movie only.
    - Open Shrink and use Reauthor (pull the main movie from right window to left window)
    - Uncheck everything except for 5.1CH sound english
    - Click back up (in ISO mode to HD)
    - Burn with Nero or Decrypter (mostly Nero)

This is the way I have been doing my movies for a little while now, and I have tried them all. This way just seems to produce the best quality and no problems. :) If you need to see pictures on how I do this check out my first guide here http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html

Okay...well...I successfully Burned friday night lights, special features and all on 1 disc. I discovered the problem to be that Little Billy Eliot thing, so I went to that 1 dvd folder the last1 Umm..Unmoutned files or somethin, found the file, went to re-author and replaced the billy eliot thing with a picture from my computer. Whole thing burned and I am watching it now

I've yet to run into a problem where my software doesn't rip and record. I always run AnyDVD in the background. Often I rip with DVD Decrypter to be able to use hard drive files. (I like having my files where I can check them or work with them if the need or desire comes up.) With LBB I used AnyDVD and Decrypter to rip, I used RB/CCE to encode and burned with Nero. (I kept both versions of the movie and recorded to a DVD5 with as good or better quality than DVD Shrink with one version, keeping the extras.) Even with all the extras I had no problems and no need to edit any files.

When I did the Bourne Supremacy, I used the same ripping method. With that one I used DVDCopy3 to encode and burn the copy. No need to edit any files at all and I recorded the whole disc to DVD5. Also, I was using slightly older versions or DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD. So, just keeping my ripper software up to date and using some of the better recording software, has saved me from having to do a bunch of editing to record movies. With both LBB and Bourne Supremacy I recorded the entire disc and both came out with excellent quality and that is viewing on a 60 inch screen.

I really don't see the fuss, though I know what is happening. Sony had the decrypter software authors scrambling to catch up for a few days. Now that they have, it's simply time to upgrade and move on.
