Well I have a really crappy computer, so my codecs have to be just right in order to work. I am trying to play a file encoded in h264 video, i installed all the codecs that were required and also tried a bunch of other ones through guides from various site, but when i play the file in VLC Media PLayer: all i get is sound, Media Player Classic: file doesnt even play, Zoom Player: file plays with EXTREME lag. Now, I never get an error or anything, the computer takes these conditions as normal i guess. I dont know what to do, plz help...
libavcodec in VLC is usually pretty out of date. Try mplayer instead, otherwise, recent versions of ffdshow include h.264/AVC decoding, as does Nero. Fact is though that AVC can take a fair bit of CPU power to decode.
Well, i have nero and ffdshow, but the came problem occurs. I have used Mplayer and recieved worse results than VLC, as i did explain... Is there something else than can be done?
how crappy is your crappy pc ? i think for a decent playback, at least 1ghz cpu ? like cel_d said get a recent ffdshow http://m17n.cool.ne.jp/freeware/mpc/
Well, my PC is crappier then 1gz, its 500mhz, but i know people who make it work even with that, like my friend who has the same comp as me, the files work perfect for him. he got the same codecs as me, but i comp is giving me trouble.. mpc has never worked good on my comp, even when recommended for special files, VLC has always worked perfectly for some reason. man, doesn't anyone know about this problem? thnx for trying to help guys, any other suggestions?
What are the res of these files? Also what encoding features were used? Even my AMD 64 3500+ can have trouble decoding AVC files given a suitable high res and features. So a 500MHz CPU would have no hope. mplayer worse than VLC? mplayer is about as resource friendly a player as there is. If it doesn't work on it (try a P3, tbird or whatever optimised build) then I doubt it will work with anything. Also what video card are you using?
