Here with files encoded using Exact Audio Copy + lame.exe --alt-preset standard %s %d the file lenghts are shown correctly by WinAmp 2.x. To find out what's the reason you could:
    - encode some wave files with lame.exe from commandline (lame --alt-preset standard infile.wav) or rip directly from CD using Exact Audio Copy + lame.exe. Same problem?
    - Check if other VBR files (e.g. downloaded) behave the same
    - Process the files with a tool called VBRfix
    - Use another mp3 input plugin for Winamp e.g. MAD
    - Try other players, e.g. foobar2000: http://foobar2000.hydrogenaudio.org
