Hi! Yesterday I downloaded the 21 day trial of AnyDVD and Clone DVD2 having had them recommended by a software store. I thought I'd try them and then buy them if they worked well. I have previously done a little DVD burning with DVD Shrink and the earlier version of Clone DVD. With the two new programs yesterday I copied a home video on DVD and this worked fine. Then I tried copying two commercial DVD movies and the same error happened with both of them. Two minutes short of finishing the writing process an error message popped up saying the burn was unsuccessful due to a media error. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I use good quality TDK discs which I successfully used with the earlier programs plus the home video burned fine on the TDK disc.

    LJenn ,
Welcome to the forum. Change the TDK's to Verbatim and that would be better. TDK is on the lower level of quality unless you are getting the TDK Made in Japan DVD's as they are only sold there.

For the error I would use the ripper function in AnyDVD and rip the DVD to the HD and then use Clone. To use the ripper look in the taskbar and right click the fox head. There you will see rip video DVD to HD. Click on that and then tell it where to save the files. Then use Clone on those files that were ripped as AnyDVD uses FixVTS to correct the structure problems.

If the error was a CRC error then try cleaning the DVD real well and try the ripper function.

Any more problems please post back

    narcismo,
If you are in the U.S. Best Buy has them on sale at least 1X a month. Check out the Sunday ads. You can also look at Newegg.com and while there see if the Taiyo Yuden's are on sale. If so Buy them or the Verbs

Thanks for all the advice. Figured out the problem with the discs. Clone DVD was set to burn at maximum speed and my discs were 1x to 16x ones. It was trying to burn at more than 16x and that was why it came up with the "bad media" error. I reduced the burning speed right down to 8x and it's working fine now. I'm still finding that some DVD's don't work with AnyDVD so I have DVD Shrink as well and if one program doesn't work with a DVD, the other one does.

I'm giving up for now! I tried burning two movies this afternoon, the first one worked fine, the second one came up with that same error message two minutes from the completion of burning. I thought I had it fixed having reduced the burning speed and I have tried another brand of discs also. Someone I know said he had nothing but problems with CloneDVD 2 and so he went back to the orginal Clone DVD which was much more reliable. Has anyone else found that too?

    LJenn ,
Never heard about that problem w/ CloneDVD or that solution your friend offered. Between movies on your system you might just need to re-boot and that will clear out the cache. See if that helps

    @LJenn

it might be that you have not set clonedvd2 to keep away from burning data away from the edge of the disks
normally this wouldnt matter to much if you use top quality dvd,but being as you are using tdk, which are not the best, but not the worst either, this might just solve it for you

set it to a custom value of 4300mb

when you use clonedvd2 to copy a dvd,as you click past the first screen, there is a little box at the bottom middle of the app,it will say dvd-5,click on that to open the drop down menu and change it to custom, thats where you enter the value 4300mb

Thanks Hursty, I'll try that when using my remaining few TDK discs. I went out and bought Verbatim ones this morning and guess what? No problems, they are burning fine. Guess, I'll stock up on them now. Thanks for everyone's help!

Also, i you have both Nero and Roxio installed, they will conflict with each other and cause you problems. Thanks to this board, I figured that this was my big problem. Make sure you wipe your machine of all traces of both programs as well. A search in the forums will lead you to those.

    good luck!

    FYI-

Since I've cleared my rig, I've been using anydvd and clonedvd to great success!
