    Hi!
Can someone please help me with my NEC 3550? I've been using it for like 2 months and everything was working fine until 2 days ago it stopped working. Now when I turn on the drive, the DVD-drive doesn't appear in My Computer anymore. My laptop does not respond to the burner anymore.(I'm using a Sony laptop) I tried taking the burner out of the external enclosure (Kingwin) and put it back in again but it didn't help. I really don't know what's going. (I haven't been upgrading the firmware since I got the burner).

I'm not sure if it's the external that has a problem or the burner. I plan to return the burner for a replacement but I don't want to return the burner and then it turns out that it's the external that has a problem.

    Someone please help me.

Thank you so much in advance

Without something else to put in the external case it'll be tough to tell what's the problem. Have you tried taking the cable out of the back of the burner enclosure and plugging it into something else? If you did and still no dice, I'd suspect the cable, the USB port, or the port drivers. However, if the other device does work, then it's either the enclosure or the burner itself.

Try removing the burner and then replacing it, making sure the jumpers are set correctly and all the cables are correctly seated.

If that doesn't help, the only thing left is to take the burner out of the case again and try putting it in a desktop machine or another external enclosure to see if it works.
