    Hey ppl

I have just installed version 7 of nero on my pc. When I put a blank cd in pc & choose "create your own disc using nero startsmart", then go on favorites & choose make a VCD, I get an error message "unable to intialize the nero API, unspecified error" can anyone help?

You might have a bad install. Do a reinstall and see if that helps.

Uninstall Nero. Then use the clean tool - link.

    Redownload Nero 7 latest's version - 7.11.10.0.

Yes you can uninstall from add/remove programs but then run the clean tool app - only takes a minute or two and will remove the traces of Nero left behind from the uninstall.

I like the last version of 7. I have Nero 8 and 9 also but truthfully do not see any reason to update to either.

Shouldn't be cause that version is compatible w/ Vista.
The error basically means that nero can't access the module (or app whatever you want to call it) you are trying to open. API is application programming interface so since you've done the clean install it might be a bug with your specs and Nero.

Try open Vision from under application in SmartStart instead. Then make a cd>video cd.
See if going in that way makes a diff.

Do you have the full version of Nero or an oem version - Nero Essentials (came w/ the burner or pc)?
Vision should be listed under applications when you open smartstart if you have the full version. (see pic below).
If you have essentials there are 3 different ones - here are the differences - link

Click on the flame icon in the bottom right hand corner - under application what is listed? If you have Nero 7 Ultra Edition this will appear there. You should also see Nero Vision listed there.

Do you have Nero SmartStart fully open? Look on the left and you'll see an arrow - if it's pointing to the right it's not fully open - click on it to open Smart Start.

What happens if you just go to favorites in smartstart and pick ;make a video cd' - same error?

I didn't have it fully open, I found nero vision. The problem I get now is it's not burning to my cd drive? I add a movie. go to the last page where it say burn to drive, it's burning to HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP20? what's this? At the top right hander corner where it says Set the parameters for buring, under burn to i only got HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP20 & Image recorder? what do you think the problem is ?

That's an LG DVD burner - newer one. It burns to cd, dvd, and dvd ram discs.
What's the make and model of your burner?

Click on 'computer'. Right click on the dvd-rw drive listed on the left then go to properties>hardware. It will be listed there in the hardware tab.

When you click 'burn' Nero isn't really starting the burn process - just the transcoding process. Once it gets to the burn process if no disc is in the drive that you picked then they tray will eject and Nero will ask for a blank to be inserted.

Ok -you're good. Nero lists the drives correctly - DVD RAM GH22LP20 is your cd/dvd burner (reads too) and GDR-H30N is your read only drive.
