A while back, I downloaded Blindwrite, Alcohol and Daemon Tools in an attempt to get an image to run. I didn't get it to work and I left it. The actual problem I have is that in the time between then and now, my cd-drive will not run ANYTHING that I put in my cd drive. I can install and play things without protections, but backups and originals that have any sort of protection will ask me for a cd. I don't think it is my drive since I have tried it in other computers with success and have tried other drives in this computer with the same result. Since I was using the drive a few days before I downloaded the tools and I havent done downloaded any other applications during the last month, I suspect that one of those 3 programs could be causing problems. Where does a cd-drive look to verify that a cd is valid and what could cause this to change?
hi Have you uninstalled the programs all of them? i have heard of this before! but they never got back to us to let us know what they did? if anything? are you sure there are no other programs loaded? autoplay and alike? cloneCD? Thx...
Ahh yes, I forgot I got CloneCD at the same time. But I have since deleted that and still can't run anything. All the other programs are uninstalled. I don't think there are any other programs I put on in the last month that could affect it.
Civ3, Freedom Force and C&C Renegade don't work as far as I've tested, although I have got Quake 3 and old games like The Dig running.
It's not the CD drive. I thought it was at first, but I've tried 2 different drives and the result is the same. When I moved the drives to another computer, they were fine.
Not uncommon m8 for backups of Safedisc or SecuROM 4.x not to work in the dvd\cd-rom. Some dvd\cd-rom can bypass ATIP check (Safedisc) and the TwinSector cd sheme of the SecuROM cd protection (v4.83^up). So are you saying you can't install anything with your cd-rom or just backups of certain pc games? Shoey
I can install everything. I just can't play anything with a copy protection because I get asked to put in a CD whether it be an original or a backup.
AHA! It was leftover Blindwrite files. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/40717 Thanks for all the suggestions ppls
If you don't own a "2 sheep burner" then you'll need emulation (hide cd-r\ignore media type) to play backups of particular pc ptrotected games (images). Most common is Safedisc and you would have to launch the backup from your [bold] burner [/bold]. Shoey
