I have been burning movies for many years using the cheapest dvd's I could find and never had any problems. I recently bought a pack of Nexxtech dvd's and they would skip when played in one of my dvd players. I did some research online and read about the dvd's being cheap and may lose their information during prolonged storage. I returned the dvd's and bought a 100 pack of Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Premium Line dvd's from supermediastore.com These ones: http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-media.html I'm using a Pioneer DVR-K16 burner that came installed in a HP Compaq Presario V5201US. Driver info says: Provider- Microsoft, Date- 7/1/2001, Version- 5.1.2535.0 First: It is an 8X burner. I just burned a dvd and the read time was 25:21, burn time 14:30. When I started the burning process, it starts at 0.1x and slowly goes up by 0.1x increments. By the time the dvd was finished burning it only got up to 4.2x. I don't know if that's normal for an 8x burner or not. It has always taken about that long to burn a movie. Second: I can burn a movie with no problems other than it seems to be going slow. It always burns successfully. The problem is that the Taiyo Yuden dvd's cannot be read in any of my 4 dvd players or the dvd player in the laptop that I burned it in. The computer will show how much space is used on the dvd and will show the files in the video_ts folder, but when I try to play it, it trys to load and then says incert disk. I then burned the same movie on a Staples brand 16x dvd-r that I had around. It still burns just as slow, but it will play in all my dvd players. Do I need to update my dvd burner drivers or firmware? I can't find any firmware or driver updates for it on Pioneer's website. Also, I use a few different burning programs. 123copydvd, 1 click dvd copy 5, and i'm currently using the trial version of DVDFab 5. The burn times are the same with all programs.
Can anyone help? I really don't know what to do and don't wan't to have to return the dvd's and use the crappy ones. I don't really care about the burn speed, I just thought it might have something to do with them not working and I wanted to give as much info as possible.
