I used smartripper then dvdx to convert a DVD to an mpg file.
When i watch the mpeg file i get a little pause every 2-3 seconds. Very annoying.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
    thanks for any help

I love playing this game! and now it's Q & A time boyz and girls...

    1. Does this ever happen with other movies or DVD's?

    2. how about mpg files you download instead of rip from DVD?

    3. Have you tried creating VCD or SVCD with this MPG file & does that play on a standalone DVD w/out glitches?

After we get done playing 20 questions, we can all get together for some cookies and ice-cream!

    Hi VCDjunkie,

    1. This was the first DVD I tried to rip. I tried it several times and on different computers. I'll try ripping a different DVD.

    2. I have downloaded mpg files without a problem.

    3. I did create a VCD but it had the same problem with the mpg.

    thanks for your help.

bustercat, did you keep encoding the file to vcd over and over again. If you did you probably created vbr overflows/underflows. It happens when you keep encoding the same movie. I can guarantee that you got terrible quality even without the pausing. You will also notice that the file sizes tend to be smaller.

Go to the link that vcdjunkie provided and learn how to encode that way or if you want to make vcd, then go here...

    hope that helps a bit

Thank you for your help. I will try the instructions and software provided by the link.
I did try to convert a different DVD to VCD and had better results. The re-occuring pause problem only happened in the first 30 seconds of the movie. The rest of the movie appears to be fine.
