I have a benq 1640 and verbatim 8x +r media. Drive is booktype dvd-rom. Using recode and dvd43 to transcode to 4.7 disk. I have made several backups which play on standalone pioneer player. I have run into the following problem. I am making a backup of Monsters Inc. and it is too large to fit on a single 4.7 even with max compression. I found under the main movie folder both 4:3 and 16:9 movies. I kept the widescreen and disabled the standard video replacing it with a solid color to maintain dvd compatibility. the backup plays on the pc. choose widescreen and you get video, choose fullscreen and you get solid color. This dvd wont play at all in the pioneer standalone. no video, no menu, no nothing. not recognised as a dvd. Its not the media because other backups play, and I didn't reauthor or delete anything. Help please.
When useing shrink re-author mode you don't need both tiltles in the compalation, just choose 1 or the other. One is usually widescreen and the other is usually full screen. Then drag just one over to the compalation window backup and burn.
Yes, the re-author mode removes everthing except the main movie to increase the quaility. In Recode, start recode do entire movie once encode is done, lower the settings in the video quaity for the menus, extras and unrefferenced material. This should save you some quaility without loosing your menus.
Well I figured out the original problem. Apparently dvd43 misses some encryption in the upper vob files. I used recode and dvd43 to back up the movie without ripping it first with decryptor to save time. I then used decryptor to rip to hd. Even though dvd43 was active and green smiley face in tray, Decryptor paused after 90%+ complete at vob 5 and displayed a "encryption detected even though disc is not encrypted, Would you like to decrypt?" message. I chose yes, used recode again and burnt a beautiful backup with working menus and all the other crap the kids enjoy at the end of the movie..
