Hi, I bought this drive on newegg 2 weeks ago and i had 16x verbatim dvd+r disks that i tried burning onto and the drive took a very long time to burn. It took around 13 minutes. I had no other applications open at the time so i thought that there must be something wrong with the drive and i was going to get it replaced. I also updated the firmware so that should not be the problem. I have been really lazy in returning it but recently i bought some 16x TDK dvd-r so i decided to try burning on it today, thinking maybe the media was a problem. It took around 9 minutes to burn and the buffer rates were jumping around like mad. Ive heard that it can burn a whole disk around 5-6 minutes so i think either there is something wrong with my computer or my drive. I just did a Nero CD-DVD Speed test thing and the graph seems to jump all over the place. I am not very good with computers and burners so if anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to the picture of the speedtest: http://www.geocities.com/kenshingtx2000/nerodvd.JPG
Hey, thanks for the reply. I did happen to see that thread before but my dma is on. The thread does say however that it doesnt work for those with an nvidia driver and i think i have an nvidia driver, im not exactly sure but i included pictures because i think you guys might know if you see it. http://www.geocities.com/kenshingtx2000/DMA.JPG http://www.geocities.com/kenshingtx2000/devicemgr.JPG
I decided to get it replaced so hopefully the drive that comes will work. If i get the same problem, ill get a nero log and post it up here. Thanks for your help.
I got samsung dvd burner...I wanna know if...I can make it a booktype burner?...also nero software came with it and it would do...a Quality scan either with Nero...Y is that? if any one knows pm me back pm Thanks...
Hey, i just got my replacement drive today and it seems to be having the same problem as before. It will burn up to 38% fine and then when it hits 38%, the buffers start going crazy. Theyll drop down to a low % and go back up to 100% and then drop back down and so forth. I saved a log of it. This was burned on a TDK 16x dvd-r. Ok, This version isn't for your drive. Save your serial number and then uninstall Nero. Now run this tool Tool found here! Now run both these update packages... 1) Package 1! 2) Package 2! Also, The disks you're using are v bad. Get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden disks You're burning too fast. Burn @ 4-8x. You have Roxio installed. This conflicts with Nero and you don't need it. Run this tool to get rid of it Roxio Zapper Once you've done all that, get back to me if you still have problems.
Thanks for the reply, ill try all those after i get back home today. But i was wondering what you said about burning too fast. Do i have to burn slower because the quality of the disks are bad and i could burn faster on Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim disks or will i never be able to burn fast? The reason i bought the drive was so i could burn faster.
Yes you shouldn't burn fast on those disks. However, you should not burn to those disks at all cos after about 6 months they will become unplayable due to poor manufacturing quality. Also, if you buy Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (the best brands around) then you can burn @ 16x. It's more common practise to burn @8-12x though. People like to burn at 16x but you get slightly (and I mean slightly) lower quality burns.
Hey, Thank you very much for all the help so far. I just uninstalled nero and i downloaded the 2nd nero file you posted but the first nero link isnt working. Is that file necessary?
I have this same drive and it works fine... except for DVDs. it will not read or write them at all. Lightscribe works, CD-R's and CD-RW's both work, but not dvds. I just bought it 4 days and it is reall irritating me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Make srue you have teh latest firmware Download this... http://www.samsungodd.com/Lib/popup...ad&fname=200609091353457801_SH-S182M_SB02.BIN Use this to update your drive... http://www.samsungodd.com/KorLib/File/sfdnwin.exe
thanks, it works now... in my desktop. I have a USB adapter for it to use with my laptop, and it still does the same thing. I tried the adapter with a different samsung dvd drive and it worked fine. so the adapter works ok. is there anything else that i am not thinking of?
Maybe it's not compatible with your enclosure. Not much you can do about that. Glad it's fixed for desktop though
i just bnought the same DVDRW TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M but is not recognizing my DVD+R blanks. i updated my firmware with the links provided below but is still not working... i not using Nero im using Roxio the produck the came with the package.... help thank you
You may just have a faulty drive. Take it back and get another or replace it completely. Then if you stil have issues, we can go from there.
should i get Nero this is the error message --------------------------- Roxio Creator 8.2 XE --------------------------- Please insert a blank or rewriteable DVD DL Supported media: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, DVD RAM --------------------------- OK Cancel ---------------------------
I'd scrap Roxio and get rid of it using this tool. Then, yes, use Nero. You can get the trial free for 30 days. It is well worth having and a class burning app!
