Gave Any DVD time to read disc 5-6 mins. Ripped with AnyDVD> DVD Shrink> then CloneDVD, no problems.

I've gotten the movie to load into AnyDVD like 5 times now, takes between 30 minutes and an hour. Once in I try DVD shrink but when opening it it freezes about half way through the movie. Always the same spot, always the cyclic redundancy error.

I went to AnyDVD forums, which stated that AnyDVD will take time to read disc. Once read, ripped with AnyDVD and shranked and burned, as stated this worked.

W went fine using AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. Works in all standalone except for the Sony which doesn't play anything over 8X media.

I saw that too but I didn't have that issue at all on either movie. Maybe it's just some setups.

I was having trouble backing up "W" with DVDFab 5.2.3 until I enabled PathPlayer and used Main Movie.

I downloaded 5.2.3.2 and it worked fine without changing any settings. The DVD plays on my low end player but it takes a LONG time to load.

There are quite a few bogus cells in the menu - you could blank them out (vobblanker) - doing the menu though can be a little tricky.

edit - to clarify since we have 2 movies lumped in this thread - it Miracle at St. Anna I was referring to - W doesn't have the same issue.

I forgot everything I knew with this one. I tried to make a copy by clicking on the file at first. That led to an I/O error right on the lionheart logo. So I ran it through the ripit4me window. It was going to take over 24 hours to work that way. So I shut it down. Next day, thinking it was a scratch on the DVD, I rented a different one from Red Box. Same result. I decided to run ripit4me through the entire 24 hours to see if that would work. It was the 15th vob that gave the trouble. It ripped at a slow 1 kbps or even 0 kbps at times. But I ran it the whole day and it seemed to work. Only, when it reached the point of creating an ISO, I got an error message. Then I read the afterdawn forum page and got some ideas. I tried the old DVD Fab freeware which doesn't always work now, and which gets you a prompt to download the paid for one. I tried a 60 day free clone tryout, but my time was up on it. Then I remembered that many people said just Shrink and ANYDVD would work, but it would take the newest one- 6.5.2.2 to bring it off. I had a dell which I can't get to connect to the net. So I dragged a copy of 6.5.2.2 from an outside drive to the Dell with space to make isos, then opened it. Then I remembered something that no one in the forum had mentioned. Sometimes your drive won't see the DVD. But the I/O failure message is what sent me off in the wrong direction. Usually that message just means the playing side of the disk needs cleaning. Not this time. The W dvd had a PDF file included with it, which may have caused problems, not sure. Whichever the case, one of the more recent no-brainer, easy fixes is to simply copy the file to your machine, remove the original disk, then apply Shrink, with ANYDVD running to the FILE ON YOUR COMPUTER and Imgburn afterward as usual. I have rented this movie twice from Redbox, have held it over an extra day because I couldn't get it to work. So Redbox is into me for $3.18 rather than just $1.06, not to mention the more than four trips to a nearby Wal-mart to pick it up because I didn't understand how the reserve thing works right away, even though, like in this problem solution, it was the old bugaboo of not remembering what you ALREADY KNOW! W is chugging toward a perfect burning in Imgburn as we speak. If you have ANYDVD, try just copying the files to disk first by right clicking the red fox down in the right of your tray. Its SIMPLE! See if that's the problem with the Miracle Disk too, tho I'm not certain that is the solution. The moral of this story is that you should always recall everything about ripping THAT YOU ALREADY KNOW!

I used DVD Fab 5.2.3 to rip 'W' and it worked just fine but it is 6.78GB. When I use DVD Shrink to attempt to shrink it to 4.35GB, it doesn't work no matter how many times I try to do it. So apparently, the ripping part of it worked for DVD Fab but I'm stuck after that..

Can you explain why DVD Shrink didn't work? What happened? Please give details.

Well, DVD Shrink did work, but instead of the usual compression to 4.35GB, it compressed the 6.78GB into 6.77GB. All the settings are the same as usual. Usually when something like this happens, DVD Shrink gets the job done if I shrink it again, but not for this case. Do you have any ideas?

Set your target size to custom, then set to somewhere between 4300 and 4400.

Attempted to set custom setting to around 4500GB but DVD Shrink still shrinks it to 7.66. On the other hand, I used the exact same technique with Miracle at St. Anna and it worked just fine (the 7.8GB file that was backed up from DVD Fab 5.3.2 was successfully shrunk to 4.35 by DVD Shrink). Something's definitely funky with W.
