i just reinstalled windows, and I backed up all my data on my secondary WD drive. It is not showing up in My Computer, But it is in the Device Manager as WDC WD2000JD-00HBC0, under Disk drives. Is there any software I can use to access the disk and recover my data.

I tried usingt he Data Lifegaurd tools, but it will not install the drive unless I format it, I dont uderstand why it needs to be reformated if it is already NTFS

    Thanks

When you installed the new OS, did you reformat the drive as FAT32? If so, you need to convert the Windows drive to NTFS before you can see the backup drive. Open a commmand prompt and type "convert C: /fs:ntfs". It will reboot the machine and convert. You should be able to see your old drive then.

Under Control Panel>Admin Tools, open up Computer Management. Check under Disk Management. Does the drive show up there? Does it show as unpartitioned space? Under device manager, right click on the WDC WD2000JD-00HBC0 and go to properties. Click in the Volumes tab. Then click Populate. What shows up?

Hmmm......that looks OK. I'm stumped right now. I'll do some more thinking and I'll get back to you.
