Okay, I hope I don't get banned for this, I've searched all over for an answer and couldn't find anything, and although these forums seem mainly concerned with copying movies, so do all the others I could find so here's as good a bet as any... Right, I'm using an NEC ND-6500A dvd+/-RW internal drive which came with my Dell laptop; I've copied several movies to single-layer DVDs already without any problems, using combinations of DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, Nero 6.6.0.12 and Sonic RecordNow! 7.3. However, recently I tried backing up my music folders to a dual layer DVD instead. I used a Traxdata DVD+R9 and tried it with RecordNow, in which everything would work fine until it was actually supposed to start burning, at which point it would just stop. I've also tried burning a movie to a different Traxdata DVD+R9, this time with Nero, but from Nero I just get the message that it's successfully generated high compatibility borders, and then it just stops with the words "burn process failed at 2.4x". Now, I've checked the NEC website and my drive should be able to burn dual layer discs. I really have no idea where the problem lies. Have Nero and RecordNow made both discs unusable? Did they even do anything at all to the discs? Is there something very basic I'm forgetting to do? The only explanation I've thought of is that it could be related to the fact that I flashed my drive with unofficial region free firmware...and if that's the problem, it'd be nice if someone could tell me whether I really am screwed, and if not, what to do about it. Thanks, Nick
Hi Nick, You will not be banned. Can you post a Nero burn log? You may want to try a simulated burn if you don't have a log to post. If you do post one, make sure you remove your Nero Serial number. It usually starts with 1a20 or 1a23...something like that.
Yep, I've still got the log from the movie I tried to burn, here it is: (also, I realised from reading the log just now that the firmware I was using at the time was actually still the original firmware) Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.71 (0002), size=45056 bytes, created 17/07/2002 10:20:56 ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 26/10/2004 18:35:34 Nero Version: 6.6.0.12 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 12c Recorder: <_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A> Version: 202C - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.12 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A>Version: 202C - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.12 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : HTS548060M9AT00 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A D: CDRom0 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 511MB (523496kB) Free physical memory: 186MB (191476kB) Memory in use : 63 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 24.4.2005 UDF/ISO compilation 19:35:51 #1 Phase 112 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 DVD-Video files reallocation started 19:35:51 #2 Text 0 File DVDVideoCompilation.cpp, Line 549 Content of VIDEO_TS.IFO has been modified 19:35:51 #3 Text 0 File DVDVideoCompilation.cpp, Line 549 Content of VIDEO_TS.BUP has been modified 19:35:51 #4 Phase 113 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 DVD-Video files reallocation completed 19:35:51 #5 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6194 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet :FALSE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : FALSE Allow more than 255 characters in path : FALSE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 19:35:51 #6 Phase 111 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 DVD-Video files sorted 19:35:51 #7 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 19:35:51 #8 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A running 19:35:51 #9 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3293 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 19:35:51 #10 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3293 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 19:35:51 #11 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3153 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 19:35:51 #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 260 Last possible write address on media: 4173823 (927:30.73, 8151MB) Last address to be written: 3318639 (737:28.39, 6481MB) 19:35:51 #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 272 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 19:35:51 #14 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2339 Recorder: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A, Media type: DVD+R9 Double Layer 19:35:51 #15 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 438 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 19:35:51 #16 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 830 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 3318640 (3318640) = #3318640/737:28.40 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 3318640 blocks [_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A] -------------------------------------------------------------- 19:35:51 #17 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1043 Prepare recorder [_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; You not only got an illigal disc error, also Nero never made the log entrys that contain the disc specifications. It did have this: 19:35:51 #14 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2339 Recorder: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A, Media type: DVD+R9 Double Layer Normally you would have a lot more disc info in the log. You may want to try some different media, Verbatim seems to be working well for some folks having problems with the Ritek.
That's great, thanks. I've been sort of passively looking for Verbatim discs for a couple of days since I've heard quite a lot of good noises being made about them, but strangely all I've seen so far in shops here in Belgium are the Ritek ones; guess it looks like I'll be mail ordering them, ah well. I'll be back to say whether it worked or not, but thanks a lot in the meantime.
