@Photomom Welcome to aD! Here's a few suggestions suggestions for you. 1st let's edit out the serial #. Begin like this NeroVision 1C82- Your firmware which helps your drive with the read/write strategies of media/discs can use an update. The latest version is A110. Here's a link: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1910 Your drive also doesn't fully recognize the discs - this is all is that they are +r format. A firmware update can help this also. Which different brands have you tried? Turn your drives DMA back on - here's link: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 Great ram but you've got alot going on - 86% of your memory is in use. So no multi tasking and shut down any unnecessary processes. Take the burn speed down to 4x for now to see if this also helps the playback issue. Your Nero can use an update to - go to version 7.0.8.2. Here's a link: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845 Roxio sometimes doesn't play well with Nero. Since your not having burn failures - leave this alone for now. The problems you described can usally be 'cured' with using quality media, taking the burn speed down a notch and updated firmware. Players can be picky!
Thanks for all your advice! I did finally find the Nero sr # and deleted it (hopefully it was only in one place!). The DVD's I was attempting to use were Staples brand at first, and then HP brand. I did look on one of the sites someone posted here-and they are made in the same place. I went back and exchanged them for Sony DVD-R in hopes they will work. They are not the ones posted on the website as the good ones--but I don't see anything linking then to anything bad either... The first link you gave me states that I should only continue if I am an advanced user-and as you can tell, I don't think I qualify! The only thing that worries me is that is says I can destroy my dvd writer-is this an easy process? I will work on some of the other items in the mean time. Thanks again for your help...
About the only way you can destroy your drive is if you interupt the update process. Because the process just takes just a few moments chances are very good that you will be OK. For my Pioneer drives it's just an exe file I download. I then close any open programs and then click the update exe. A minute later it's done.
The Sony -R's are much better than Staples and HP. If they are made in Japan they are probably made by Taiyo Yuden - one the best beside Verbatim. If not then Sony themselves - still good. You can check the manufactuer if you like in NeroToolKit>Info Tool>Disc tab. It will give you the manufacturer id. But the -r can't be booktyped like your were doing w/ the +r's. -r's though are usually compatible w/ most players. As fasfrank said interrupted can do it. But as he pointed out only takes a minute to do. No discs in the drive too. It is fairly simple. Run the .exe - may have to do a click or two then reboot and should be set with the updated firmware. Keep us posted! Oh & the log looks serial # clean
