Dont' know how common my problem is but I am looking for some help. I have an Iomega Super DVD 8x (although for the most part my max speed is 4x). I think it is an LG GSA-4082B model. Anyway, when I first got it and tried to burn a DVD-R, it wouldn't burn. I didn't look to see what the errors were but when I tried a DVD+R it worked fine and have been using + discs since. Recently I started haveing tracking or focus errors whcih I discovered could be media however I opened a ticket with Iomega and they recommended a firmware upgrade. So I upgraded the firmware to E204 and thought things were OK but after a few good burns I started making coasters again. I bought some Phillips DVD_Rs and still had issues so looked for another firmware upgrade. I'm now running firmware A206 and still have issues. Sometimes I can get at disc to burn successfully but then it won't play in any standalone DVD player or either of the drives in my PC. However I had a -R disc laying around and succssfully burned to it. My +RWs don't seem to give me issues. I have been using BenQ 8X DVD+Rs, a combination of Verbatim and Memorex DVD+RWs with Nero, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and the Iomega software, Hot Burn Pro. Usually I burn at 4x but sometimes 2.4x. I get one good burn for every 4 or so now and wonder if I'm doing anything wrong. Any suggestions to get a good burn everytime? Why would my drive suddenly stop liking DVD+Rs and start liking DVD-Rs?
your question is all about compatability. the common advice is to get a bunch of five or ten packs of good quality media, and try them out to see which media your system (ie burner, player) like the best. experiemnt with different -r and +r brands. a good media is a huge factor. good media is taiyo yuden, ritek G04 (online)---- verbatim, fuji film (retail stores). if all four of those fail, then we have serious issues with ur setup, lol.
Thanks for the advice kocher. I was planning on buying a few good media and seeing what my burner likes best. Oh the other hand I was able to successfully burn one of the BENQ 8X +R discs last night that have been giving me trouble lately.
