    Hello everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to help with the problems I'm running into. I'm trying to convert an AVI to DVD format, and burn it to a dvd (well technically a CD-R, because my movie is only 10mins long).

I made a home movie and saved it in AVI format. I used DivxToDVD to convert the AVI into the bup, vob, etc. files. I then put all of the bup, etc. files into the Video_TS folder in Nero and burned it.
It burned fine, but when I put the disc in my DVD player, it came up with a bunch of folders on the screen (Audio_TS, Video_Ts, Root) and I had to scroll through the folders and choose the file to get it to play. It played fine, but I was unable to use the fastforward/rewind buttons on my DVD player remote control. There was also no way of getting back to the beginning without completely stopping the disc, and starting it again.

I tried another method of converting/burning as well. This time I opened all the files (the bup, vob, etc.) in DVD Shrink. I then backed it up as an ISO. I previewed the ISO in DVD Shrink and it played fine. I then burned the ISO using DVD Decrypter. Everything went fine, but when I played it in my DVD player, it did the same thing with having to navigate through folders, and selecting a file to get it to play. I couldn't fastfoward or rewind in this version either.

I also used NeroVision Express. I did the miniDVD (since I was burning on a CD-R) option, everything encoded fine, and it burned fine. It did the folder thing and no fastfoward or rewind thing again though.

Am I missing a crucial step?
I would like to just be able to put the disc in the DVD player, push play, and have the movie start, instead of navigating a bunch of folders. I would also like to be able to fastforward and rewind through the movie.

If anyone knows what I should do in order to achieve this please let me know!

    Thanks so much!

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

DivxToDVD does give me a Video_TS folder.
Do you put the DivxToDVD Video_TS folder into the Video_TS folder that's already there in Nero?

This is how I tried to burn it in Nero...

    - Opened Nero (classic).
    - From the CD pull down bar I chose miniDVD and hit Next.
    - Navigated through the file browser, found the Video_TS folder that DivxToDVD made.
    - Copied the contents of the Video_TS folder into the Video_TS folder that Nero already has there.
    - Burned it.

Please let me know what else I can try! Thanks.

I burned the Video_TS folder in Nero, but it keeps doing this weird thing on my DVD player where it thinks it's an MP3 disc, so it shows the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders on the TV screen.

It's weird because the video plays fine in my computer DVD player, but it doesn't work on my standalone DVD player.

I tried the disc in my APEX DVD player, and it showed the video and audio folders, and I had to click through the video folder and select the file to play it.

Then I tried it in my Toshiba DVD player, and it just reads the disc for a while and then says "Incorrect Disc/Error".

I will try the Prassi software and let you know what happens.

    Thanks.

The Prassi software burned the Video_Ts folder fine, but again when I put it in my DVD player, it read it as an MP3 disc with the Video_Ts and Audio_Ts folders. Ahhhh!

Do you think it's my initial AVI file? I can output back to my camcorder fine, so I'm not sure why I'm having problems converting it.

I tried AVI2DVD, but encoding the video didn't work. I had HCEnc and FreeEnc on my computer, but they both came up with this error message...

AVISource: couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc dvsd (C:path stuff\ .avs, line 2)

Also, in my video editing program I can convert the project into an MPG-2 file. Is it possible to burn that as DVD format?

    Thanks for your help.

ok you need codecs for other apps use that K-LITE mega pack, also you are using CDR not DVDR so the player thinks its just files, and also could be a small avi and this can create problems too

Do you think that if I burned the Video_TS and Audio_TS files onto a DVD-R disc, the DVD player would read it as a DVD?

Isn't the only difference between a CD-R and a DVD-R the capacity they can hold? I'm not sure why the DVD player would read them differently...

    Thanks!

    hi

just another small thing? are you placing divxtodvd VIDEO_TS folder inside nero's own VIDEO_TS folder? so as 2 folders of the name VIDEO_TS on the cdr?

if so DONT! only 1 with files inside!

Hello, nope I wasn't putting 1 folder inside the other. When I burned them they only had 2 folders, the Video_TS (with the contents that divxtodvd made inside), and then the Audio_TS which was empty.

I used Nero to make a "miniDVD", which is supposed to be able to play a DVD movie on a CD-R disc. It was the same as burning a normal dvd with the folders, but it didn't work either. Maybe my dvd players just won't read CD-Rs as DVDs or something... that major bites cuz my movie compresses down to like 500Mgs.

Blah! What is the K-Lite Mega pack? For AVI2DVD I tried something weird out. I converted my AVI to a divx AVI, ran it through AVI2DVD, and the error didn't come up, and it encoded fine. Then I burned it, and again... the whole folders on my TV screen came up.. boo haha.

    Ok, thanks!

Would using the UDF/ISO Nero function be the same as burning an ISO with DVD Decrypter?

Yeah I burned it as an SVCD fine and it plays right and everything, but I want to see if I can get it into DVD format. I want 720x480 picture instead of 480x480 haha.

    Thanks!

I made the ISO in 2 ways.

The first way I made it was by importing the files into DVD Shrink, then making the ISO.

The second way was using Folder2ISO.

    Thanks
