    - EDIT OUT your serial number

    - too old, update to latest, 6.6.0.16

    - god i hate these generic drives, this could be one of a few different drives. Exactly which drive have you got, so i can check if it's firmware is up to date ?.

    - either the burner's in a USB enclosure, or your IDE drivers aren't installed correctly. see paragraph after next (re DMA settings)..

    - yup, too old, burner isn't detected properly. update to latest, 6.6.0.16

    - DMA needs to be ON, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - for info, did you intend to do multisession ?, if you don't finalise discs most players can't play them correctly

    - oops

    - try 4x

    tahnk u for the replies,
i checked the drive but the dma is on it is an external usb drive,
but what bugs me is the dvds work fine with copy disc and make dvd video options but won't burn with make data disc option and the GQ brand disc work with data disc option.
and the drive is emperex brand. i don't understamd what to do.
it says unspecified target error and stops.so please help.

DMA needs to be on for the TEAC drive.

Looks like your firmware is out of date, i need to know whether the drive is in a usb enclosure (ie have you put it in an enclosure) or was it purchased as a proper external drive.

If it's a proper external drive, A089 of your firmware is here - http://www.emprex.com/var/download/UIPELMDU1016A089.EXE?PHPSESSID=77b0ada921501b69c4056eb76b3b15b1

    otherwise there's A089 here -
    http://www.emprex.com/var/download/...XE?PHPSESSID=77b0ada921501b69c4056eb76b3b15b1

Everything else required to get you sorted is in my previous reply. Follow ALL suggestions, do the firmware update and post back with another section of logfile, good or bad..

Are you trying to use "Nero Express" for burning? That might not be the best way to do it. Have not used it for DVD's myself. Prefer "Clone DVD". I think I have used NERO to burn in the past but have avoided EXPRESS. I seem to remeber that it it is not the program of choice for burning back-ups of DVD's.

Also, keep an eye on what programs are using you computer's resources. I've had to shut down some previously benign programs because they all of a sudden became system hogs. One of the downsides of keeping some programs up to date. Spyware Doctor was the latest. Now I don't let it load on start up.

NERO can give you some good info on what you have on board. You can also try "Belarc Advisor". Also, watch you screen when Windows boots up. It can tell you a few things about your system and drives.
