I have suddenly started to experience problems when trying to erase DVD disks +&- RW, new and old. Good media Verbatim, Memorex, and Imation. Tried Nero and Copy to DVD both the same. The message comes up to select erase and it starts to register green bars,at about 10 secs it stops and returns to the erase select message. Sometimes after selecting several times it will allow me to record. Any thoughts please?

Do you have the latest firmware update for your drive?

    If you have nero6:
Try uninstalling nero. Then run the program called nero cleantool 6.You can get it here:

    http://www.nero.com/us/Nero_6_Clean_Tool.html

Download nero again, and make sure you leave out the incd packet.

I had this trouble once and by removing all remnants of nero using that cleantool6 utility, then I was able to erase my +rw discs.

    Hi,
1/ Firmware update not available for my OEM fit Sony DW-U14A.
2/ I do not think its Nero as it is the same with erase on Copy to
    DVD.

Verbatim good media. Memorex and Imation questionable, to put it mildly. Can you delete the data on the disc by just highlighting and deleting w/o trying to erase the whole disc at once? That might tell if the drive is working properly. Are you using the same program that the disc was formatted by? InCD and DragtoDisc don't play well.
