I am having problems making DVD movies with Nero 6 & Sony mod 710A. When I get to the step of converting mpg file to a DVD file or disk, program stops at anyware from 5 min. to 1h 10m. When it stops I must use ctl+alt+del or hold start putton in to restart computer. I am on 3rd dvd-rw dl drive with same problem. I also replaced power supply because it showed low 3.3 voltage of 3.104 and there were voltage spikes too. I reloaded WIN SP2 2 times removed & reloaded Nero 6, 2 times, removed Stedio 9. I have updated ASUS bios, Nero 6 , wnaspi.dll, Sony firmware, all to no avail I ran the Sony test and it passed. I tried to change mpg or avi files to a DVD movie file and save it to a file with same results. This makes me believe that it is a computer problem, not a the Sony DVD-RW-DL drive. Any help would be greatly appreated & cut down the cost of making coasters. hi try converting the mpeg with divxtodvd (will do avi too!) this app will do the lot for you, right up to vob/ifo/bup for burning in say nero? use nero on dvd mode on tab button ADD-VIDEO it will make a folder caled VIDEO_TS place all vobs/ifos/bups that divxtodvd made in side this folder and burn! also you can load the vob/ifo/bup to dvd shrink for testing if it loads it should burn ok (use this app to shrink to dvdr5 size to IF NEEDED?????) then set it to output burn with nero engine or dvd decrypter engine, when you hit BACKUP button you will see a box for dvd decrypter! nero settings are in options i think on main tabs also what apps did you use / settings etc need more info! FREE APPS: dvd decrypter dvd shrink divxtodvd for avi to dvd i use film machine (free app) / CCE (not free) but has its own quenc decoder built in!
I did not try “divxtodvd” yet but this is what I did do with results. I used Pinnacle Studio 9 SE to make the avi & mpg files from Minolta 8 camera through a SBT-TVFM PCI card. When I tried to make a DVD movie from a mpg or avi file, that’s when problems started. I thought that it was my DVD_RW DL drive & exchange it 3 times upgrading to Sony 710A. I talked to Sony Tec & was told to delete Studio 9, Nero 6 & use cleaning tool then reload Nero 6 with updates. Still have same problem. I then called ASUS for help & told to update bios. I did with same results. At this point I was up to over 25 costars. Then I tried to make a DVD file instead of DVD disk with same problem. I have memory bank one a 256MB & one 512MB. I removed the 256MB, tried to make DVD file with same results. Then reinstalled 256MB & removed 512MB. This is the first time that I completed a DVD file. This made me think that 512MB was bad so I replaced it with a new PC2700 512 Kington. I tried again to make a DVD file, it failed at 44min. I am at a loss to what to try now!!!!!!! Pepxper
Why don't you posted your Nero's error log? This will help others to help you better. Try to uninstall "InCD" if you have any in your computer. This has reported to be an issue with other programs and Nero, or at least it's conflicting with others. Get it's "clean tool" from Nero site and clean it all out, reboot your computer, and try to back it up again. By the way, what kind of blank media are you using? Try some Fuji, Verbatim, TY and see what's up.
At this point, It doesn't sound like a memory, burner, or BIOS problem to me... since you've tried different memory configurations, three different burners now, and your BIOS is up-to-date. However, it could be that you're simply pushing your system too much. Are you overclocking your Asus motherboard? If you're computer is getting too hot (due to overclocking too much or poor airflow through the computer case [because you've never cleaned out all the dust or fan dust covers]) then it will lock-up. Video processing/decoding, is one of the most CPU intensive/taxing/heat-producing thing you can do. So failures are likely to occur while you do it. Avoid Pinnacle Studios as much as possible (I have found it to be very buggy... at least as recently as version 8... Honestly, I've never been able to sucessfully burn a DVD directly from Pinnacle -- just got extremely frustrated with it and gave up!)... That said, you might STILL have to use it when you're caputuring video from your camera through your video capture card. My point is this, once you have an AVI file don't use Pinnacle any further (i.e., to compile or burn your DVD). Have you done as Rotary has suggested? #1) Take your AVI file and run it through VSO's "divxtodvd" program. It's an awesome (free) utility that will give you DVD-files (VOB's) once it's all finished. Download it here: http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm #2) Then, go into Nero and select "Burn DVD files". Add all the VOB files that "divxtodvd" made for you, and burn away. If Nero says your DVD files are too big (>4.7GB), you may have to go back and compress them with DVDshrink (just between steps #1 and #2) above... This is unlikely, since you probably didn't take more than 4.7Gig of video with you camera!! ;-) If you use divxtodvd and Nero, you shouldn't have any problems.
Alkohol asked: for Nero erro logs, where do I find them? I ran clean tools, I am using Verbatim, TDK & Compusa DVD+r disks. RussReef asked: Am I pushing system too much. Are you overclocking your Asus motherboard. I am not overclocking system. (see first post for my system. (poor airflow through the computer case [because you've never cleaned out all the dust or fan dust covers]) I have blown all dust and have enough fans & side of computer is off. Using ASUS Probe temps are 51c/123f normal, at time of lockups 57c/133f, Voltage & fans are normal. (Avoid Pinnacle Studios): Studio 9 has been removed. I did run Cleaning Tools. Pepxper
