okay, I've been at this for weeks with no success.
I try to make a vcd, so far I used Nero 6, and Alcohol 120, but they don't work!!!
Nero 6 burns the image under the vcd setting , yup 100% complete, no errors, but the created vcd doesn't play in any of my dvd player's (all play vcd's) or even in my PC!!! What gives??? Anyway, I no longer have Nero 6, I personally think the program is crap, but that's my own opinion. My version of Nero 6 doesn't even let me select a write speed slower then 8X. What a wast of money that program was. It's gone now.
Alchol 120, would burn a VideoCD disc, but it too does not work with my DVD players and my PC! How can I burn an image on my pc, put the disc back in and not have the disc work.
I've tired many different cd-r medium's. So that's not the problem.
I use a hp dvd writer400i, and windows xp, and I can't burn a vcd, what gives, are there any other program(freeware) that is strictly for creating VCD's.
I'm feed up with trying Nero and Alcohol 120.
    Thanks.

it might be a problem with ur image file

you can use a program like 'isobuster' which will extract the contents of the image file

you could try extracting the mpeg outta the vcd image and let nero author and burn a new vcd with the extracted mpeg(nero IMO is one of the best programs going around)

you should not have a problem then, unless the problem is the mpeg file =/

    see how you go anyway
    cheers m8

If I have a VCD-candidate MPEG, 352x240 I believe TMPEGenc makes them, then I burn it with Roxio. Roxio puts up a chart that shows all the VCD standards (White Book specifics) and whether or not said MPEG is in compliance, it will complain if something is not appropriate. If it likes it it will burn, but- I can't play it back, even in the PC that just burned it! I can play the MPEG, but VCDs won't play in WMP. I have found that only Real Player will playback VCDs (and I don't have it on my ripping-PC).
But, you say no playback in DVD player through TV?
    Not compliant.
VCD burning is kinda tricky, and I'm ashamed to admit that in Roxio I actually use The Wizard to pick my way through 'Simple Video Sequence' vs. 'One Level Menu Structure' etc.
Roxio notes "MPEG files that won't work for VideoCD can still be written to a data CD, but it won't play on a VCD or DVD player."
    Hope this helps, 6.
