I converted a .avi file using WinAVI into dvd format, and used Nero Express Vision 2 to burn it on a DVD. The burn process finished sucessfully without any errors, but now when i play it on me DVD, just the main screen shows up, but the video wont play :S.

Can anyone please help me out here?

probably a dumb question, but are you sure the actual movie is on the disc?

Did you link your menu up properly? (I always have trouble with this one)

yeah i think i did, cuz the main screen shows up on my TV when i play from my DVD player, but when i choose to play, it gets stuck there. Just so you know, i did burn it on a DVD/RW; not sure if it makes any difference.
I did this same procedure with few other movies, and some of them work perfectly fine, while some gave me the same problem.

Interesting.....This kind of makes me think that whatever program you're using that actually links up the menus (I'm assuming it's NVE??) is unreliable. Have you tried any other programs to do this?

Also, does this same disc do the same thing in other players?

Ja Ja Ja Ja Ja es hat eine Probleme!
    ( Ich spreche duetch auch =) )

Anways, yes, if you do put it on a DVD-RW it does have a problem.
I'm thinking that your DVD might not play DVD-RW's. However, if it plays the menu, I am not totally sure. Try doing it on a DVD+R, as they are the most commonly played disc. But trying using a different DVD player, that might work. Hmm. When you burn onto your disk, does it contain Video_TS and Audio_TS? That happened to one of my cheap DVD players a while ago.

yes, i do use nero vision express 2, with which i can make menus and all, but im not sure if its one the best to work with; any better dvd movie making softwares you guys can recommend? I tried playing the burned DVD over my PS 2 which is from Europe(PAL) while my DVD player is from here North America(NTSC) but they both tend to encounter the same problem.
I am not sure if i insert the Video_TS and Audio_TS properly, cuz in NVE when i want to add video files, it just accepts .VOB files, and that is all i put in and burn...dunno if that might be the prob?

Actually, more DVD players will play -R than +R, unless you booktype the +R as a DVD-ROM ;)
I've heard that a proggy called Film Machine works great for converting AVI to DVD or VCD and allows you to use menus (although I think the menu only allows you to link to one movie), but I can't get it to work with CCE (best encoder available).

Oops! Sorry bro, lol. I meant -R instead of RW :)
    Thanks for my mistake =)

Oh and about that burning proggy. I use Recordnow! and it works just fine. All you really have to do though to get Video_TS and Audio_TS is just create thos folder names and put all the files in video_TS.
