Problems starting windows

I'm having problems sometimes starting my computer. I start my computer and it gets to the screen where it says Windows with the little loading bar. It will then freeze then restart (softboot) and then go to a screen that gives me different options on how I want to start windows. It has like 3 safe modes and at the bottom it says Start Windows Normally. When I click Start Windows Normally it will get back to the Windows screen with the little load bar and restart again ultimately starting the same process all over again. After awhile I get on. I'm concerned it could be a serious problem. Any help would be appreciated.

 

try pressing f8 on boot, choose not to restart on system failure (if its ther) if not you may need to reinstall windows you wont lose all your stuff... you will however need to reinstall you programs.

 

It doesnt always do it, only sometimes. What do you think is causing this to happen?

 

Will this erase any of my things? I've never reset my ram, how do I go about doing this? Thanks for the help

 

not reset, reseat.

you wont lose anything by reseating your ram. basically all you do is open up the computer, take the memory out and put it it back in or re-seat it.

 

I tried reseating my RAM and I also tried running a eraser along the gold part, but had no success. When windows couldn't start it would go through the cycle listed above only a couple times, but now it is taking longer to log on. It almost goes through the cycle for about 20 minutes. The last thing I want to do is reinstall Windows. Any suggestions?

 

reset the bios by taking out the cmos battery for a few minutes and putting it back in or by moving the jumper on the mobo.

 

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this. I'm not to advanced when it comes to the parts inside my computer. Can you be a little more specific? thank you

 

open up your pc case and look at the motherboard (thats the big board thing that everything slots into ) you should see a small battery on there about the size of a 10 pence piece - take the battery out and boot up your PC. then shut it off.

then put the battery back in and boot up your pc again and the bios should be reset

 

I took the battery out and then I turned the PC on and it wouldn't get to windows. It was stuck on a screen that listed some specs of my computer (Drives ETC.)and it said press F1 to run and press F2 to ETC.....I left it on this screen for about 3 minutes or so and then I turned the PC off and put the battery back in. I then turned the PC back on and it came to this same screen and wouldn't start up, so I pressed the F1 option which said RUN. It then came to a black screen that says- Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device-...Then I turned my computer off and on again thinking by pressing F1 it was getting this error, so I was going to press the only other option F2, but it wouldnt get back to that screen. It would turn on and go directly to the black screen with the booting error. I can't even get into my bios anymore. My computer is not in working condition at all at this point...Any help is much appreciated! Thanks

 

I talked with ASUS technical support and they said these symptoms are because of the motherboard being damaged. Does this sound accurate? If so, how does a motherboard get damaged? Its only a year old.

 

yes it is either the motherboard or the harddrive failure

 

I think it was a some type of power surge because thats what the error was reading that it could be. Is this something I can fix myself or should I send it to the manufacture? Also will everything on my hardrives be gone? I have my 2 harddrives setup with a RAID and I'm hoping that I wont have to set everything up from scratch again.

 

i have the same problem, i would run under safe mode, run system restore...but if safe mode is messed up or wont work.... i would just reinstall the os...
