    Hello all you Computer Gurus,

I recently formatted my HDD and re-installed Win XP, and I installed all my programs, etc., including the XP Codec Pack. Now, whenever I try to transcode/burn downloaded .avi videos to DVD, it won't work.

For example, when I try to use "TMPGEnc DVD Author," it wouldn't even open the video, stating that it could only access the audio portion of the video, but not the video portion. And, when I try to use "Nero Vision 4," (part of Nero 7 Ultra), it would open the video (I could even play the video in the program usind the DVD preview feature); however, when it begins to transcode the video, the program immediately shuts down.

Keep in mind, before I formatted my HDD, everything worked fine with both programs when it came to transcoding video. Now I'm left just scratching my head!

Thanx, I look forward to some valueable input on this!

I'll bet you're still missing a codec somewhere.

What you are encountering occurs to me all of the time when I put a new system online. Invariably, for me it's the Divx codec, as I transcode lots of Divx encoded videos.

I've recently started transcoding H.264 and I now have to remember to re-install my h.264 codec.
