Hey there. I hope someone can help me with this. I'm converting AVI files to DVD format with AVI2DVD and then authoring them with .IFO Edit. Now, the help file that came with AVI2DVD tells me my next step is to burn my DVD with Nero 5.5 or newer.

This is my problem: Nero 5.5 doesn't seem to acknowledge my DVD burner as an actual DVD Burner! It only seems to see it as a CDRW drive... Here is a screen of the Nero wizard as an example:

This is a screen of the New Compilation screen I get in NEro:

However, when I run the NEro info tools, it detects it like this:

    Hope someone can help

    - Nick

Nick have you tried logging on to Philips website and upgrading the drivers for that model. Have you used burner before?

hmmm, Nero only started catering for DVD support in the last dregs of version 5, so your burner, being very new, is just not catered for in version 5. Nero's info-tool is clever enough to identify the actual burner, but the actual burning software isn't gonna cater for it. You'll either need version 6, or version 7 is due out any day now - http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6801.cfm

Probably right. Probably my best bet would be to use a newer version of Nero. I am able to use this burner for both CDRW and DVDR with other programs, including the integrated windows "drag & drop" feature for burning but they don't compare to Nero :(

I'm not sure if this is a driver issue as I just bought this Dell Dimension 9100 a week ago. Hopefully they didn't sell me a brand new computer, put a drive in there and not verify whether the driver is up to date or not.

I also tried looking into Philips' website but it's horribly designed and I can't seem to find anything. If you absolutely want to take a look, I'm in Canada.

Thanks People! I had no idea someone was gonna reply to this so fast. I posted this last night...

I chcked out Philips web site and couldnt find anything on your burner. I didnt realize it was a new one so I agree with Creaky that you should update nero.

I'm not sure how old it is. It came with the Dell computer I just bought last week. It's running fine now that I got a more recent version of Nero.

Sorry for the delay responding Out2shine,
As of yet, it does not seem like you need to update the drivers/firmware on this drive.

This is a fairly new burner and I haven't updated anything for it yet. It works flawlessly at this time for me.
