I've had no problems learning how to use DVD decryptor and DVD shrink...but now some of the DVD's that I've made come up and completely freeze when I play them (after burning of course). I can't get them past this problem. Also, a few of the DVD's that I've tried have come up with a bad sector (or some other type of error message)and I can't get it to finish....???
So what does that have to do with DVD Ripping? *moved from DVD Ripping* Your either burning them too fast or its the brand of media your using.
check your disk out: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm crap media is crap media and if you don't know how to identify your disk's manufacturer use this program: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm because flip is right...... if you are burning more than 4x then you are pushing your chances of errors on your disk. And of course if you have low grade media then that's your problem that you can correct...... either way it's correctable!

I just got back to the thread. Ok. I use DVD decryptor, DVD Shrink, I've used the same package of DVD+-RW since I started, and some of the DVD's will skip and show the little squares in the picture (is that sector problems) and then some will go to the further length of completely freezing up and you can't get past it by fast forward or rewind...I've followed the detailed directions given on the website for every DVD burned at all of them have been at 4x and I don't see why some would have a prob and other not if it were my quality of DVD....help!
@dgclough: Just a thought, maybe your original(s) are a "bad press". Or, its scratched or scruffed up pretty good. Also, have you tried defragging? It's good to clean out the HD every couple of burns so you'll have a clean "writing surface", so to say. Just a thought.
Is the firmware on your burner up to date? What brand are you using? Do you have this problem with the backups on all your standalones, have you tried playing it on the computer.
hi same as flip218 says change the brand of discs used! get some decent ones, use dvd indentifier or dvdinfo pro or even dvd decrypter on iso write mode i think, it will show you the ID code/dye type for that disc!
Ok, to answer everyone....I have defragged but maybe every 4-5 burn...so I'll try that. I use decryptor but haven't ever noticed the disc type (and what do I do with it when I find it???). I haven't tried to play it on the computer, what I am looking for, to see if it pauses or breaks up on the computer, if so is it my dvd player?? I don't remember what brand of DVD's I'm using, I'm at work, their at home . Also, some of the DVD's are scratched but not so bad that they won't play on the DVD player...they don't skip at all if using the original....UGH!
@dgclough The reason we say we want to know the brand of media you are using is brcause u maybe able to cpy the movies no probs but in the long run over time multiple plays can cause loss of quality and or skips etc... Also quality of media is probablly one of the major reasons users have issues in the long run later on... They may play no problems on your standalone DVD Player but copying the disc is a diffrent storry cause the laser has to pick up basically everythin on the disc but if its dammaged it may not pick up the files and give u an error... Here again are 2 programs that may help please try them and keep us updated... Ok, I'll try the 2 new programs, i forgot to look at me blank dvd's to see what brand they are. But these are problems of skipping/pausing from the very 1st time we play them so....I've never tried to play anything I've burned more than once (at this time) burned probably 15 DVD's and out of those maybe 5 have a skipping and 2 have a complete pause when playing that we can't recover from....
@dgclough While you are checking make sure to see if your burner firmware is up to date, this aids in media recognition and burn speed.
Ok, My DVD's are Maxell, DVD+RW 4.7 gb, 2 hrs in sp mode...I don't know how to check and see if my " burner firmware " is up to date but it should be, I just bought my laptop (about 3 months ago) and it was top of the line.... Anything else?
hi brand names dont mean much, use dvd identifier or dvdinfo pro or dvd decrypter to tell you the id codes off the disc (dye type) also 3 months is a long time in firmware circles you could be 3/4 behind! nero info tool will tell you also dvd decrypter will check firmware!
Just because the comp is new does not always mean the burner's firmware is up to date. Use Decrypter to find out what the make/model and current firmware is. Just go into the Tools tab, drive and then capabilities. Looks like this
Ok, DVD decryptor says that my firmware is: Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A PDS3 (D (ATA) .... Now, I'll put in one of my blank disks and see what happens....
Ok, help out here too...I put my blank disc in and look for ID codes, where are they specifically at???
hi just checked my brand new 1 week old lite-on dl burner its 2 firmwares behind on iso write i think the window will populate all info on right side
