Can ayone help me on what can possibly be going wrong. I am using CloneDVD, DVD Shrink and Any DVD (Is this correct for a start?) Number 1: As a new user to XP when I go into "My Computer" the Sony shows up just as a DVD-RW Drive (E and my other DVD Drive just shows up as DVD Drive (D Insert a dvd into the dvd drive and a blank Verbatim DVD+R into the sony and ask CloneDVD to do the business...off it goes and writes the dvd files then writes to disc. Take the disc out and try to play it and it comes up with "The disc you are trying has an unsupported format" The recorded disc will not play in either drive but will play in my stand alone cinema system. I also have a bit of software which must of been installed with the original sony drive software called DLA which appears to be attached to both dvd drives. I am sure that this is something relatively easy to solve but with my lack of knowledge and now lack of hair!! would welcome any help or support from anyone to resolve this and let me record my dvd's as a happy man! Thanks in advance
CambsGuy, Me thinks this is more an XP problem than a problem with your Sony drive - I'd like to try a little test as it were - bear with me - What I'd like you to do is go into msconfig then startup and uncheck all applications (Disable All) then click "OK", reboot your system and without opening other applications just open your PowerDVD and try those "Naughty" discs again - I want to see if they'll behave on a clean slate ) When you report back, let me know if you have Roxio installed on your PC. Ooohh yea, Welcome to the Neighborhood ) Pete
Hi Pete Thanks for your advice. Did what you asked and no difference I am afraid. I do not have Roxio installed as you ask. This is a new built computer running Win XP Pro on a K7S5A Mainboard, AMD Athlon(tm) 22000+ at 1.70GHz and 512MB of Ram. I have a JMLS DVD PLayer and the Sony as a Writer. Sometimes the pc sees the DVD Writer as just a normal CD player and if i reboot it may then see it as dvd writer but not as a sony. If I duplicate a dvd, clone dvd does what it is supposed to do, but when it says it is writing to disc and then ejects at the end of writing I get a blank disc back. If you or someone is willing to help me through these problems then I have no problems wiping out my pc, and reformatting everything step by step as the pc hold no information and all i really want it to do is be able to surf the web and copy cd',dvd's etc. I have my other 'puter for everything else! Many Thanks
Please check to see if you have the latest firmware or if you need a flash upgrade for your drive - I just had a bit of trouble with AnyDVD and CloneDVD. Let's first uninstall AnyDVD. We'll install it later - I'd like to try DVDShrink - here is a link to the latest version - Shrink download - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm Shrink Guide - http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm also we'll need Nero as a burner - we'll use the trial version at no cost. (If you already have it, great !) A 30 day, free, fully functional Nero 6 download can be had here: http://www.nero.com/us/631939541422774.php OK, give that a try, same DVD, please - Let me know how you made out - Pete We'll see if it is CloneDVD, AnyDVD or something else - _X_X_X_X_X_[small]The “old man” Pete (ö¿ô) Compaq 8000, Pent 4 CPU 2.84GHz, 1GB RAM. 340GB HD, 7200 (Maxtor 120, Western 200 & 20. 4 Drives, JLMS DVD ROM, HP DVD Writer 200j, Nec 4X DVD RW ND-1300A & AXV CD/DVD-ROM. My Sony DRU 530a would write OK but not read the discs it had written, until I zapped it with firmware 2.0 and now it performs flawlessly <g>. HTH
Hiya, GET RID OF IT!!!. DLA stands for Drive Letter Access, RecordNow ships with it, as do some proprietary packages (as you have discovered). It is packet-writing software, it is of very little use, and WILL muck up your attempts to use the drives in a manner you control. Hope this helps....
