    Hi,

I have been sent a DVD+R of a wedding video we recently went to, but am unable to view it. I have tried it on numerous machines at home and work...PCs, DVD players, PS2s...but with no joy. I usually have no problem watching DVDRs (+ or -) on any of these machines

You can see there is data on the disc, when you look at it (physically..with your own eyes), but a couple of XP PCs say it is blank disc and ask me if I want to write to it. On one machine Nero told me it was an open session, but attempting to close it did nothing.

The source of the disc is a Sony handicam which is then outputted to a Phillips DVDR70-051. We have even sent the disc back to the person who wrote the disc, and he says he can view it on his system - which I really don't understand...unless he's confused, which is possible!

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Cheers
    Nick

This is not uncommon for burnt dvds --- work on certain machines, but not others. You may try use e.g. Iso Buster to see if you'd have better luck.

    Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate that there are sometimes issues, but I've never had a disc before which appears to be an open session. So it appears it doesn't work for this reason, rather than the usual + or - disc issues of playing the wrong disc in the wrong player.

I am trying ISO buster now, but it errors while extracting the data. This also reports it as an open session.

Has anyone else had this before? Are there settings on these DVDRs that may not be set right, so it leaves the session open? Or any other tips on how I may close the session for it to become a working disc?

    Thanks for any advice

    Nick

The Phillips DVDR70-051 is a Standalone DVD Recorder right?

Those do not automatically finalise a disc. There should be an option somewhere to do it. If it is not finalised, it will only work on the DVD Recorder and nothing else.

Try pressing the "system" button on the remote, then select the item that looks like a Hammer and wrench. Now look to the left of your screen and there will be something that looks like a suitcase (I think it is "Disc features"). Select that and then select Finalize disc. After a minute or so your disc will be finalized and should be playable in most DVD players and PC drives.

If this is not it, then refer to your manual on how to access the "Finalize disc" feature. It should be under something like the "Editing" section.

Absolutly, yep. It is a standalone DVDr.

And that makes perfect sense. My uncle is quite old, and this is a new toy so I thought it could be an option his end, but as I've never used one of those standalone DVDrs I wasn't sure.

    Thanks alot
