First off, after installing the card and the corresponding software, my monitor screen was distorted. to fix that I turned the Screen Refresh Rate down from 75hz to 70hz (my screen resolution is 1280x1024).

now, when I try to run Halo PC, this error pops up (ignore the panther skin, im running XP):

before the X800 I didnt have a graphics card, I just had the Graphics Accelerator chip that was built into my motherboard, and Halo PC started up fine, just had framerate problems (to be expected). However, now it wont even start up! I even ran DXDIAG, but that didnt fix anything. I rebooted my computer several times and reinstalled Halo, but that didnt help either.

any help would be really appreciated!

Are you using the most up 2 date DX and the latest drivers for the card?

download directx 9c from microsoft as it appears you have an older version installed maybe 6 or 7 which can't do 3d graphics

    hmm...that did it! lol i feel like a n00b.

but now i have a new problem: xp wont recognize my X800 XL as a video capture card. Ive installed all the drivers for it as well as the software (including catalyst). Ive hooked up all the cables (S-video into vid card, L+R audio>line in), but xp just wont recognize it!

Did you use driver cleaner in safe mode after you uninstalled the old drivers?

    http://www.drivercleaner.net/

uninstall your video drivers reboot your computer holding f8 enter safe mode run driver cleaner click the ati tab run, reboot, reinstall new drivers!
