I have a .mov file that a would love to re-encode as a DVD mpeg using TMPGEnc, but I'm having trouble with the audio. I have the the QTreader plug-in so TMPGEnc happily accepts the video, but it won't re-encode the audio. Quick Time reports the audio type as MP3 32000Hz. I assume it must be VBR MP3 so I tried using VirtualDubMod as a frameserver but it won't open the .mov as it's unsupported. I tried renaming the movie .avi but there was no tricking VirtualDubMod. The Movie codec is 3ivx D4 4.5.1 but this isn't the problem as TMPGEnc will happily preview it (after I installed the codec). Does anyone have any ideas about how I could re-encode this .mov? I'm thinking I might have to extract the audio as a .wav and feed that into TMPGEnc seperately, but how do I extract a wav from a mov, and will I lose audio sync?
Try using EO-Video to convert the MOV to AVI or MPEG-1. http://www.eo-video.com/ You will then need to use TMPGEnc to convert to MPEG-2.
Thanks for the tip. EO Video looks like a great little movie converter. The conversion was definately working but EO Video kept crashing on me. Then I found that if I actually tried to watch the movie all the way through it would randomly crash QuickTime. It seems like a have a corrupt .mov, or at least a codec problem still. Have you got the latest quicxktime installed? i know that sounds stupid but u wouldnt believe how much it helps sometimes lol. Also i would suggest u raise the priority of the plugin! that might also help!
Option - Environmental Settings - VFAPI Plug-ins if i remember correctly u have to right click and change priority, right click on the number beside it!
I am having the same problem with a .mov file, using TMPG my resulting mpg file that I want to use for a VCD is perfect except for that there is no audio whatsoever, I have installed the quick time plug in and increased its priority and I have Quicktime 6 installed but I am not really certain that I am doing everything I need to do , any other settings or proceedures I need to check or do to sort this out. TMPGEnc does not support Variable Bitrate (VBR) MP3 audio, so that is probably your problem. In a DivX to VCD situation I would normally use VirtualDubMod to act as a frame server for TMPGEnc. This process is described in one of the DivX to SVCD guides here at Afterdawn. The problem here is that VirtualDubMod does not support .mov video. Your best way out of this is to try EO Video as suggested earlier. It worked well for me, and if it wasn't for my corrupted .mov file it would have worked a treat. Much simpler to use than TMPGEnce too. You other option is to extract the audio file from the .mov, re-encode it into the appropriate audio format and then remux it into the .mpg after re-encoding it.
You could also try WinAVI Video Converter. http://www.winavi.com It is supposed to convert most any video format into any other video format, though if it will work may depend on the particular video and audio codecs that are used in the source file.
