PC: Dell laptop Latitude, CD Drive: TEAC CD-224E

CD drive will only play audio CD's and not CD-R after installing a ripping program. It flicks a mini CD icon and goes "Please insert a disk into drive D:"

    What I have done:
    - Unstalled the ripping program.
    - Killed all ASPI layers (using typical Kill ASPI program).
    - Installed Adaptec ASPI, both the older 6.somthing version and the newer 7.1. Didn't work, killed it.
    - Installed NERO ASPI. Same.
    - Installed Force ASPI. Same.
    - Uninstalled driver/re-installed it. Updated driver (using Win XP).
    - Device Manager> Show hitten deviced> deleted all Force app.
    - Formattet Hard Drive using Win XP SP2.
    - Tried to format using DOS. Got following message: "...the volume is in use by antoher process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume?" Y > "Cannot lock the driver. The volume is still in use."

    Any suggestions?

Just curious. What Ripping program did you installed?

PS Dell PC usually have an option to return to factory settings. That is if you didn't mess with the specific partition when you formatted the Hard Drive.

As far as I remember is was Xilisoft. Not Smart Ripper, which I probably should have installed instead.
I've found out that I can now actually play CD-R and Audio CD's, but not DVD's.
